The Plattsburgh State men’s Hockey Team is a Division I program on the rise. The Cardinals have won three straight SUNYAC championships and made the NCAA tournament in back-to-back seasons.

The team’s success is due in large part to Head Coach Bob Emery, who took over the program in 2006. Under Emery’s leadership, the team has transformed into one of the top programs in Division I hockey.

The program has produced some NHL talent in recent years including current San Jose Sharks defenseman Brenden Dillon and former Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas Plattsburgh State is also home to one of the top Division I Hockey Players in the country in forward Mike Zalewski, who was recently named a First Team All-American.

Plattsburgh State Hockey A Division I Program on the Rise- The Conference
The East Conference is a NCAA Division I hockey-only conference that operates in the northeastern United States The conference is made up of six teams: the University of Connecticut the University of Maine the University of Massachusetts, UMass Lowell Northeastern University, and the University of New Hampshire.
The conference was founded in 2003, when the five charter members left Ecac Hockey Plattsburgh State joined the conference in 2017 as its sixth member. The conference is unique in that it does not have an official headquarters or office; instead, it is run by a Board of Directors made up of representatives from each school.
The conference championship is awarded to the team with the best record in conference play In 2017-18, Plattsburgh State won the regular season title with a 14-2-2 record. The 18-19 season will be the first year that the conference tournament will be held; it will be a four-team single-elimination tournament held at a neutral site.
The winner of the tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament.

Plattsburgh State will once again compete in one of the most challenging Division I hockey schedules in the country in 2019-20. The Cardinals will play a total of 27 games against 10 different NCAA Division I opponents, including four teams that qualified for the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice hockey Championship tournament.
In addition to its 27 games against Division I foes, Plattsburgh State will play two games each against two of the top three Division III teams in the country from a year ago in Norwich University and Manhattanville College. The Cardinals will also play a pair of exhibition games against Canadian universities.

The student section known as the “Adirondack Bank Center Roarout,” is one of the most passionate and vocal in all of college hockey They are always ready to cheer on their team, no matter what the score is.
The Plattsburgh State community as a whole has really embraced the hockey program and come out to support them. The team set a program record for average attendance last season, and they are well on their way to setting a new record this season.
The fans play a big role in making Plattsburgh State Hockey one of the best Division I programs in the country, and they will continue to be a big part of the team’s success for years to come.

Since its inception in 1987, the Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team has enjoyed a rich tradition of success, winning five NCAA Division III National Championships and making nine appearances in the Frozen Four.
Now, as the program enters its third season at the Division I level, that tradition is continuing. The Cardinals have quickly made a name for themselves, posting a winning record in each of their first two seasons and reaching the 20-win mark for the first time last year.
This year, Plattsburgh State is looking to take things to another level. With a core group of returners led by All-American goaltender Neil Conway and top scorer Ryan Williams the Cardinals are poised for a run at the conference title and beyond.
