RIT Hockey: A Look at the Team’s History
RIT Hockey is a NCAA Division I Hockey Team that competes in the Atlantic Hockey conference. The team is based out of Rochester, New York and has been in existence since 1957. RIT has made nine NCAA tournament appearances and won the Atlantic Hockey regular season title three times. In 2010, the team made its first Frozen Four appearance, losing to eventual National Champion Boston University in the semifinals. The following year, RIT once again made the Frozen Four, this time defeating Wyoming in the first round before losing to Ferris State in the semifinals.

The team played its first game on December 2, 1962, against Cortland State University The Tigers won the game by a score of 8–2. RIT would go on to win its first six games en route to a 10–4 record in its inaugural season.
In just its second season of existence, RIT captured the 1963 Division III National Championship with a 5–2 victory over Clarkson University in the Championship game The Tigers finished the season with an 18–3 record, which stands as the best single-season winning percentage in program history (.857).
RIT continued its success in the early years of the program, winning two more Division III National Championships in 1965 and 1967. The Tigers also made appearances in the National Championship game in 1968 and 1969, but were unable to capture their fourth title.
