The Southern Connecticut State University women’s Hockey Team is the pride of New Haven. The team has won four NCAA Division II National Championships and is consistently ranked among the top teams in the nation.

SCSU Women’s Hockey: A Brief History

The Southern Connecticut State University Owls women’s Ice Hockey program began in 2001. The Owls made their first appearance in the NCAA Division III tournament in 2004 and won the National Championship in 2008. The team has appeared in the tournament seven times, most recently in 2018. The Owls play their home games at the Ingalls Rink on the SCSU campus in New Haven, Connecticut.

The Owls have been coached by Melissa Samoskevich since 2018. Samoskevich is a former member of the United States women’s national ice Hockey Team and won a silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics

The Southern Connecticut State University women’s Hockey team was founded in the fall of 2001. The team’s first season was in the 2002-2003 academic year. The team played its first game on November 8, 2002, against the University of New Hampshire. The team won its first game, 3-2.

It all started with a goal. The first goal in program history was scored by Stacy Wilson against UConn on November 9, 2001. Since then, the SCSU women’s hockey team has gone on to have an extraordinary amount of success. They have won 5 conference championships and made 7 appearances in the NCAA tournament They are consistently ranked in the top 10 nationally, and their fans are some of the most passionate and dedicated in all of college hockey

The Pride of New Haven is more than just a Hockey Team they are a symbol of strength and determination for women everywhere. They have inspired young girls to pick up a stick and chase their dreams. They have shown that anything is possible if you believe in yourself and work hard enough for it. For all these reasons and more, the SCSU women’s Hockey Team will always be loved and cherished by their fans.

SCSU Women’s Hockey: The First Win

In their first game of the season, the SCSU women’s Hockey Team won 3-2 against Plymouth State The victory marked the first win for the team, which is made up of students from Southern Connecticut State University The team is coached by Nate Handrahan, who is in his fifth season as Head Coach

SCSU Women’s Hockey: The First Season Recap

The 2019-2020 Season was the inaugural season for the SCSU Women’s Hockey team The team finished with an overall record of 15-15-1, and a conference record of 10-9-0. The team made it to the semifinals of the conference tournament before losing to eventual champion Northeastern.

The leading scorer for the team was freshman forward Emma Nordic, who tallied 14 goals and 12 assists for a total of 26 points. Sophomore goaltender Abby Czarniecki was outstanding in net, posting a .935 save percentage and a 2.16 GAA.

The team’s head coach Katie Crowley, was named the Conference Coach of the Year after leading the team to a successful first season. Crowley is a former Olympian and member of the USA Hockey Hall of Fame and she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role with the team.

The SCSU Women’s hockey team has quickly become a source of pride for the university and the city of New Haven, and they will continue to strive for success in future seasons.

SCSU Women’s Hockey: The Second Season

The Second Season of SCSU Women’s Hockey is about to begin. After a very successful inaugural season, the team looks to improve upon their 16-4-1 record. The team is led by captain Jamie Lynskey and features six seniors. The team’s goal is to make it back to the National Championship game and win it all this time.

SCSU Women’s Hockey: The Third Season

In their third season, the SCSU women’s hockey team has quickly become a fan favorite in New Haven. The team is currently undefeated in conference play and ranked third in the country.

The team is led by senior captain Emily Janiga, who has tallied an impressive 21 goals and 26 assists so far this season. Janiga is joined by fellow seniors Melissa Samoskevich (19 goals, 15 assists) and Taylor Williamson (10 goals, 16 assists) as the team’s leading scorers. In net, junior goaltender Emmapolni has been stellar, posting a .935 save percentage and only allowing 1.24 goals per game

With only six losses in three seasons, the future looks bright for the SCSU women’s Hockey team The team will look to continue their success next season as they aim for a conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament

SCSU Women’s Hockey: The Fourth Season

Now in its fourth season, the Southern Connecticut State University women’s Ice hockey team has quickly become a powerhouse in the Northeast-10 conference. The team has won two conference championships and made one appearance in the NCAA Division II National Tournament

The team is led by Head Coach Holly Lounsbury, who has been at the helm since the program’s inception. Lounsbury was named the NE-10 Coach of the Year in both 2016 and 2018. Under her leadership, the team has had a winning percentage of .700 or better in three of its four seasons.

The Pride is made up of 23 student-athletes from all over the country, including eight from Connecticut. The team’s leading scorer is junior forward Emily Curlett, who hails from Stittsville, Ontario. Curlett was named to the All-NE-10 first team after leading the conference in goals (17) and points (32) during the 18-19 season

The SCSU women’s hockey team has quickly become a source of pride for both the university and the city of New Haven. The team plays its home games at Ingalls Rink, which is also home to the men’s Hockey team and the Yale University men’s and women’s teams. The arena seats 3,500 fans and typically sells out for both men’s and women’s games.

The Pride will look to continue its success this season as it prepares for another run at a Conference Championship and a spot in the NCAA tournament
