-Darius McNeill: A sophomore guard from Antioch, California, McNeill was a key contributor last season as a freshman, averaging 5.4 points and 1.6 assists in 22 minutes per game. He will look to build on those numbers this season as he takes on a bigger role with the team.
-Shake Milton: A junior guard from Owasso, Oklahoma, Milton was one of the Top Players in the American Athletic Conference last season, averaging 17.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game He is expected to be one of the leaders of this team once again and will be counted on to provide a spark off the bench.
-Harry Froling: A freshman forward from Adelaide, Australia, Froling is a highly touted recruit who comes to SMU with a lot of hype surrounding him. He is a big body at 6’11” and 260 pounds and has the ability to score inside and out. He will look to make an immediate impact for the Mustangs this season.

Head Coach Larry Brown – Larry Brown is in his first season as the Mustangs’ Head Coach He has over 40 years of coaching experience at both the collegiate and NBA level, and is one of only four coaches to have won an NCAA championship and an NBA Championship

Associate head coach Tim Jankovich – Tim Jankovich is in his first season as the Mustangs’ associate Head Coach He has over 30 years of coaching experience at both the collegiate and professional level, and has been part of two NBA Championship teams.

Jimmy is an all-around player who can shoot from long range and drive to the basket. He is also a good defender and has been known to steal the ball from opponents.

The History

The SMU men’s basketball team has a long and varied history, dating back to the early days of the sport. The Mustangs have fielded some of the game’s greatest players and have been to the NCAA tournament numerous times. Here is a brief history of the team.

The SMU men’s basketball team began play in 1915, under the direction of Head coach Forrest Cashion. The team struggled in its early years, posting a losing record in each of its first four seasons. In 1919, Cashion resigned as head coach and was replaced by E.O. separate}! (AKA “Sep”). Sep led the Mustangs to their first winning season in 1920-21, finishing with an 8-7 record.

The Mustangs continued to improve under Sep, finishing with a winning record in four of his five seasons at the helm. In 1925-26, SMU posted its first 20-win season, going 20-5 under Sep. The Mustangs then made their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 1926-27, losing to Baylor in the first round.

In 1927-28, Sep left SMU to become the head coach at TCU. He was replaced by Maurice “Clancy” Boyd, who would go on to become one of the greatest coaches in SMU history. Under Boyd, the Mustangs won their first conference championship in 1928-29, finishing 16-3 overall and 8-2 in conference play SMU then made its second NCAA tournament appearance, again losing to Baylor in the first round.

Boyd led the Mustangs to another Conference Championship in 1929-30, finishing 18-3 overall and 9-1 in conference play However, SMU lost to Texas Christian in the semifinals of the conference tournament and did not receive an invitation to the NCAA tournament

In 1930-31, Boyd led SMU to another 20-win season and another conference championship. The Mustangs then made their third NCAA tournament appearance, again losing to Baylor in the first round. Boyd left SMU after that season to become head coach at Texas A&M; he was replaced by Matty Bell.
