In 2017, Knez played for the single-A Salem-Keizer Volcanoes of the Northwest League, hitting .273/.351/.387 with four home runs and 33 RBIs in 66 games. He then played for the single-A Augusta Greenjackets of the South Atlantic League in 2018, hitting .301/.358/.484 with 11 Home Runs and 56 RBIs in 103 games.

Knez finished his 2019 season back with the Lumberkings where he played in five games and batted .250/.250/.500 with one home run and four RBIs.

The following year, Knez was promoted to the South Bend Cubs of the Class A Midwest League. In 119 games with South Bend he batted .270 with six home runs and 50 RBIs. He was named a Midwest League All-Star and also played in the All-Star Futures Game a contest featuring top minor league prospects.

Knez began the 2019 season with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League In May, he was promoted to the Iowa Cubs of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League With Iowa, Knez batted .294/.333/.447 with four home runs and 32 RBIs in 75 games. He was named a Pacific Coast League All-Star and also played in the Triple-A All-Star game
