Key Players to watch on each team

As the season starts to wind down, every game becomes increasingly important. With that being said, here are a couple key players from each team to keep an eye on.

St Louis Cardinals The Cardinals have been one of the best teams in baseball over the past few years and they show no signs of slowing down. A big reason for their success has been their starting pitching. Adam Wainwright has been the ace of the staff for a while now, but youngster Jack Flaherty has taken over that role this year. He leads the team with a 2.75 ERA and 0.98 WHIP and has struck out nearly a batter per inning. Another player to watch is first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. He was acquired in an offseason trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks and has quickly become a fan favorite in St. Louis. He’s hitting .260 with 30 home runs and 89 RBIs and is a big reason why the Cardinals have one of the best offenses in baseball.

Atlanta Braves- The Braves have been one of the surprise teams in baseball this year and they look like they could be a force to be reckoned with for years to come. A big reason for their success has been their young starting pitching staff. Mike Soroka, 22, leads the team with a 2.42 ERA and 0.98 WHIP, while 23-year-old Max Fried isn’t far behind at 2.87 and 1.09 respectively. Another player to keep an eye on is third baseman Josh Donaldson. The former MVP was signed to a one-year deal in the offseason and has quickly become one of the best hitters in baseball. He’s hitting .259 with 33 home runs and 94 RBIs, but his biggest contribution may be his leadership ability as he’s helped mold this young Braves team into contenders sooner than anyone thought they would be

Series to watch out for in the second half

As the all-star break approaches, there are a few series to watch out for in the second half. In the American League the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are set to square off in a crucial four-game set starting Thursday night The Yankees currently lead the Red Sox by four games in the AL East, but with head-to-head meetings remaining, this series could be pivotal in deciding the division winner.

In the National League the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies are on track to meet in a crucial three-game set starting next Monday. The Rockies currently hold a slim lead over the Dodgers in the NL West, but with these teams playing each other head-to-head multiple times over the next few weeks, this series could be critical in deciding who takes home the division crown.
