On Monday, Jackson State University released its 2019 baseball roster The team is made up of 22 student-athletes, representing nine different states.

Head coach Malik Joslyn said, “We are excited about the 2019 baseball season and the potential of this team. We have a mix of veteran leadership and young talent that we think can compete at a high level.”

The team will be led by senior captains Darius Days and Tyler Schwaner. Days was named to the All-Southwestern Athletic Conference First Team last season after hitting .342 with seven home runs and 36 RBI. Schwaner, a left-handed pitcher, was 4-5 with a 4.50 ERA in 2018.

Other key returners include junior outfielder Daniel Martie, who hit .297 with eight home runs and 31 RBI last season, and sophomore pitcher Trey Owens, who went 3-2 with a 2.70 ERA in 2018.

The team will open its 2019 season on February 15th with a three-game series against the University of Central Arkansas

JSU Announces 2019 Baseball Schedule

The Jackson State baseball team has announced their 2019 schedule. The Tigers will play a 56-game regular season beginning with a three-game series against Austin Peay February 15-17 at The Athletic Complex. JSU’s home opener is set for February 22-24 against Samford.

The Tigers will participate in the Atlanta baseball Classic, hosted by Georgia State March 1-3. JSU will face Indiana State and Bradley during the tournament.

Other notable games on the schedule include a three-game series at Mississippi State (March 8-10), a three-game home series against Alabama A&M (April 12-14) and a four-game homestand against Prairie View A&M (May 17-19).

The SWAC Tournament will be held May 22-26 at Wesley Barrows Stadium in New Orleans.

2019 JSU Baseball Schedule

The 2019 JSU baseball schedule has been announced. The team will begin their season on February 15th with a Home game against the University of Alabama at Huntsville. They will then play a three-game series against the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga before hitting the road for a three-game series against Samford University

JSU Baseball Releases 2019 Schedule

The Jackson State Baseball Team released its 2019 schedule on Wednesday. The Tigers will play a total of 56 games, 29 at home and 27 on the road.

The season will begin on February 15th with a three-game series against Alcorn State The Tigers will then have a mid-week game against Mississippi Valley State on the 20th before beginning a three-game series against Southern Miss on the 22nd. JSU will also play host to Grambling State (3/1-3), Alabama A&M (3/15-17), and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (4/5-7) for weekend home series’.

On the road, Jackson State will travel to face Auburn (2/26-28), UAB (3/8-10), Ole Miss (3/29-31), and Texas Southern (4/12-14) for weekend series’. The Tigers will also have mid-week games at Memphis (3/19), at LSU (4/2), at Southern Miss (4/16), and at Mississippi State (5/14).

The SWAC Tournament is set to begin on May 21st and will be held at Trustmark Park in Pearl, MS.

JSU Baseball Releases 2019 Roster

The Jackson State University baseball team has announced their 2019 roster. The team is composed of 26 players, including 12 freshmen, six sophomores, two juniors and six seniors. The Tigers will be looking to improve upon their 2018 record of 15-39 overall and 9-27 in the SWAC.

“We are excited about the prospects of the 2019 season,” said Head Coach Omar Johnson. “We have a good mix of veterans and newcomers that we think can compete at a high level.”

The roster includes three returners who started more than 30 games last season: senior outfielder Brandon Eady, junior infielder/outfielder Jordan Johnson and sophomore pitcher Miles Denton. Eady led the team in batting average (.321), RBI (31) and stolen bases (10) in 2018 while Johnson ranked second on the squad with a .313 batting average Denton posted a 4-6 record with a 4.50 ERA in 81 innings pitched last year.

Among the newcomers are freshman pitchers Jaden Hill and Bryce Jarvis, who were both highly touted recruits out of High School Hill was rated as the No. 6 right-handed pitcher in the country by perfect game while Jarvis was ranked as the No. 36 righty by Baseball America
