Tennessee Technological University’s baseball team is one of the up-and-coming programs in the country. The team has seen success in recent years winning back-to-back Ohio Valley conference championships and making two consecutive trips to the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament With a young and talented core of players, the future looks bright for Tenn Tech Baseball

The Team

Tenn Tech Baseball is a team on the rise. After going 28-27 in 2017, the team improved to 34-22 in 2018 and made it to the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament for the first time in program history. The Golden Eagles finished the 2018 season ranked No. 24 in the nation by Baseball America

The team is led by Head Coach John Steven Wright who was named the Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2018. Wright has coached Tenn Tech Baseball to a winning record in each of his four seasons at the helm of the program.

The Golden Eagles have a strong core of returning players from their 2018 tournament team, including All-American infielder Chase Chambers and All-Ohio Valley Conference pitcher Tristan Archer. The team also welcomes a highly touted recruiting class that includes five players who were ranked among the top 500 prospects in the nation by perfect game USA.

With a mix of experienced veterans and talented newcomers, Tenn Tech baseball is poised for continued success in 2019 and beyond.

The Rivalries

Tech’s most heated rivals are Middle Tennessee State Vanderbilt, and Louisville. The Blue Raiders have been the Golden Eagles’ biggest nemesis of late, eliminating Tech from the conference tournament three times in the last five years. The two schools are separated by less than an hour’s drive, which only adds to the intensity of the rivalry. Vanderbilt is Tennessee Tech’s top rival in terms of all-time wins and losses, and the two teams have been meeting on the diamond since 1897. The Commodores lead the series by a wide margin, but the Golden Eagles have had some recent success against their SEC foe, winning three out of four games against Vanderbilt over the last two seasons. Louisville is another long-standing rival of Tennessee Tech, with the two schools playing each other nearly every year since 1947. The Cardinals hold a slim lead in the all-time series, but the Golden Eagles have won four out of six games against Louisville since 2013.

The Stadium

In 2019, Tennessee Tech will open a new baseball stadium that will be one of the finest in the country. The project, which is currently underway, is being funded primarily by private donations. When complete, the stadium will have a capacity of 3,000 and will include state-of-the-art amenities such as luxury suites, club seats, and a press box. The facility will also be used for events such as concerts and corporate outings.

The History

Tenn Tech Baseball has a rich history, dating back to the early days of the sport. The team has seen many Great players come and go, and has been a part of some of the most memorable moments in baseball history

The team got its start in 1892, when a group of students at Tennessee polytechnic Institute decided to form a team. The team was originally called the Tigers, but soon changed its name to the Vols, in honor of the school’s mascot. The team played its first game against a local High School and won by a score of 20-0.

The Vols soon began to attract attention from other colleges, and began playing games against some of the best teams in the country. In 1897, the team won its first conference championship and in 1900, it won its first National Championship

The team continued to be successful throughout the early 1900s, winning another National Championship in 1911. However, the team’s fortunes began to change in the 1920s, as it began to struggle on the field. The team had a few winning seasons in the 1930s, but it was not until 1940 that it truly began to turn things around.

In 1940, legendary coach Robert Neyland took over as head coach of the Vols. Under Neyland’s leadership, the Vols quickly became one of the best teams in college football The team won five National Championships between 1941 and 1951, and also claimed 14 conference championships during that time period.

The 1960s were a tough decade for Tenn Tech baseball as the team failed to win a single conference or National Championship However, things began to turn around in 1970, when Head Coach Doug Dickey led the team to its sixth National Championship The team would win another National Championship under Dickey in 1974 en route to an undefeated season.

After Dickey’s retirement in 1976 Tenn Tech Baseball hired Johnny Majors as Head coach . Majors would lead Tenn Tech Baseball through some of its most successful years ever . Under his guidance Tenn Tech Football won three more SEC Championships (in 1977 , 1979 , and 1981 ), as well as their seventh National Championship , which came in 1998 . Majors retired from coaching after 38 years , 26 of which were spent at Tenn Tech .

Today , Tenn Tech baseball is considered one of the top programs in college baseball . The team has made 27 appearances in the College World Series , winning it all on three occasions (in 1949 , 1967 , and 1998 ) . With a rich history full of success , Tenn Tech Baseball is definitely a team on the rise .
