Head Coach Ryan Bruce and his staff have put together a solid roster for the upcoming season with several new additions that should make an impact.

One of the most notable additions is pitcher Sean Doolittle, who comes to UIC after a successful career at John A. Logan College Doolittle is a hard-throwing left-hander with good control, and he should be a valuable asset to the Flames’ pitching staff.

Another key addition is infielder/outfielder Steve Gillaspie, who brings a considerable amount of experience to the UIC squad. Gillaspie has played professionally in both the United States and Japan, and he will be counted on to provide some leadership for the younger players on the team.

Infielder Khalil Denson is a junior transfer from Iowa Western Community College He was named First Team All-Region XI and was a NJCAA Division I All-American Honorable Mention last season. Denson is originally from Chicago and attended Morgan Park High School

Outfielder Dillon Haupt is a junior transfer from Heartland Community College Haupt was named First Team All-Region IV and was an NJCAA Division II All-American Honorable Mention last season. Haupt is originally from Normal, Illinois and attended Normal Community West High School

Pitcher Michael McCaig is a redshirt sophomore transfer from Heartland Community College McCaig was named First Team All-Region IV and was an NJCAA Division II All-American Honorable Mention last season. McCaig is originally from East Peoria, Illinois and attended East Peoria high school

Pitcher Ryan Weiss is a freshman from Orland Park, Illinois. Weiss attended Sandburg high school where he was named First Team All-State and First Team All-Conference as a senior.

Pitcher Ryan Kutt comes to UIC from Lakeland Community College In his two years at Lakeland, Kutt compiled an 8-2 record with a 3.43 ERA. He was named First Team All-Conference and was named conference Pitcher of the Year in his sophomore season.

Infielder Matt Sullivan comes to UIC from Clemson University Sullivan played two seasons at Clemson, starting all but one game in his junior season. He hit .273 with three home runs and 17 RBI in his junior season. He was named Honorable Mention All-ACC in his junior season.

Outfielder/infielder Steve Ramsthal comes to UIC from Miami Dade College. In his two years at Miami Dade Ramsthal hit .385 with 18 home runs and 103 RBI. He was named First Team All-Conference and was named conference Player of the Year in his sophomore season.

Pitcher AlexERT comes to UIC from Lincoln Trail College. In his two years at Lincoln Trail,ERT compiled an 8-1 record with four saves and a 3.32 ERA. He was named First Team All-Conference and was named conference Pitcher of the Year in his sophomore season

The most notable addition to the team is pitcher Matt Kirkland. Kirkland was drafted in the third round of the MLB draft by the Chicago Cubs He joins the UIC Baseball Team after pitching for two years in junior college In his junior year, Kirkland had a 8-2 record with a 2.48 ERA and was named conference pitcher of the year. His addition to the team will provide some much needed depth to the pitching staff.

The other notable addition to the team is infielder Michael Brettell. Brettell comes to UIC after transferring from Oklahoma State University As a freshman, Brettell played in 28 games and hit .333 with one home run and nine RBIs. He provides some much needed experience to an infield that lost three starters from last year’s team.

The final new addition to the roster is catcher Jake Parisi. Parisi joins UIC as a transfer from Oral Roberts University He will be sitting out this season due to NCAA transfer rules but he will provide some needed depth at catcher next season.

Derek Bates
Bates comes to UIC from Wheaton North high school where he was a three-year varsity letter winner. As a senior, he was named DuPage Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-Area by the Daily Herald He also participated in the 2015 area code games representing the Midwest. Bates was ranked as the No. 9 prospect in Illinois by perfect game

Logan call
Call joins the Flames after attending Seminole State College in Oklahoma where he was named First Team All-Conference and posted a 6-1 record with a 3.12 ERA in 13 starts. The righthander struck out 74 batters in 68 innings pitched and held opponents to a .233 batting average Prior to his time at Seminole State, Call played one season at Western Oklahoma State College where he went 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA in 11 appearances, including seven starts. He also appeared in three games forunt Omaha in 2016, posting a 0-0 record with an 8.53 ERA.

Infielders

Justin Henderson
Henderson comes to UIC after transferring from Central Arizona College where he batted .349 with 65 hits, 38 RBIs, 37 runs scored and eight home runs while playing third base and shortstop last season. As a freshman in 2016, he hit .258 with 50 hits, 19 RBIs, 24 runs scored and four homers while appearing primarily as a shortstop. Henderson prepped at Mountain View High School in Mesa, Arizona where he hit .365 with 42 hits, 31 RBIs and 20 stolen bases as a senior while earning All-Region Honorable Mention honors from perfect game USA.

Catchers

Luke Mejia
Mejia joins the Flames after transferring from Madison College where he hit .313 with 41 hits, 24 RBIs and 22 runs scored last season while catching and playing some first base. The Oak Park, Illinois native prepped at Oak Park River Forest high school where he earned all-conference honors as both a junior and senior while also being tabbed as an honorable mention all-area selection by the Chicago Sun Times following his senior campaign

Infielder/Outfielder Matt Hirsh: A native of Oak Park, Illinois, Hirsh is a graduate of Oak Park-River Forest high school He played two years of Collegiate Baseball at Miami Dade College before transferring to UIC. Hirsh is a versatile player who can contribute both offensively and defensively. He is expected to see significant playing time in his first season with the Flames.

Outfielder Eric Feldbush: A native of Buffalo Grove Illinois, Feldbush comes to UIC after spending two seasons at Highland Community College He was a key member of Highland’s team that won the NJCAA Division III World Series in 2016. Feldbush is a talented hitter with a good eye for the strike zone He should be a valuable addition to the Flames’ lineup this season.

Pitcher Steve Dominguez: A native of Chicago, Dominguez comes to UIC after spending two seasons at Lasalle-Peru Township High School He was named first team All-State as a senior after posting an 8-1 record with a 1.48 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 65 innings pitched. Dominguez has Good Stuff and should be able to contribute immediately on the mound for the Flames.

Pitcher Zachary Jones: A native of Lemont, Illinois, Jones comes to UIC after spending two seasons at Joliet Junior College He was named an NJCAA All-American as a sophomore after posting an 11-2 record with a 2.38 ERA and 129 strikeouts in 103 innings pitched. Jones has great upside and could be one of the best pitchers in the conference this season.
