2017 UMass Boston Baseball News

The 2017 UMass Boston baseball team will have a new look, as the program has been hit hard by graduation.

The Beacons will lose seven seniors to graduation, including All-American third baseman Cam Ruziak and starting pitcher Steve Witkowski.

Infielder Billy Hartmann and pitchers Mike Connolly and Jon Thomas will also be gone, as will outfielders Troy Scribner and Drew Hoffner.

That leaves the Beacons with just 12 players who saw significant playing time last season.

“We’re going to have to find a way to replace a lot of good players,” said UMass Boston Head Coach Brendan Eygabroat. “But that’s the challenge every year.”

Pitching will be the biggest question mark for the Beacons in 2017, as they’ll need to find a way to replace Witkowski’s eight wins and 101 innings pitched

Infielder Dylan Ketch is the only senior on the roster, while junior second baseman Zachary Senym is the only other player with more than two years of experience in the program.
