The Utah high school Basketball Playoffs are here! The top 32 teams in the state will compete for the chance to be crowned State Champions The first round of games will begin on February 26th, and the Championship game will be played on March 9th.

The Teams to Watch in the playoffs

The Utah High School basketball playoffs are here, and there are a few teams that are looking particularly strong this year.

The first team to watch is Highland high school They’re the top seed in Class 5A, and they’re coming off of an undefeated regular season They have one of the best offenses in the state, led by senior guard Alex Barcello. Barcello is averaging 22 points per game and he’s a big reason why Highland is such a dangerous team.

Another team to watch is Lone Peak High School They’re the top seed in Class 6A, and they’re coming off of a great season in which they only lost two games. They have a balanced team with a lot of talented players, but their star is senior forward TJ Haws. Haws is averaging 19 points per game and he’s one of the best players in the state.

Finally, we have East High School They don’t have as good of a record as the other two teams mentioned, but they’re still a dangerous team. They finished third in Class 5A, and they have a lot of talent on their roster. Their leading scorer is junior guard Kobe Mattingly, who’s averaging 18 points per game East also has a very good defense led by senior center Diante Mitchell.

First up is Jaiden Hart of Lone Peak High School Jaiden is a senior guard who is averaging an impressive 20 points per game Hart is also a solid defender, and he will be key to Lone Peak’s chances of making a deep run in the playoffs.

Next is Kaden Mahoney of West Jordan High School Kaden is a junior point guard who has been one of the best players in the state all season long He averages 18 points and 8 assists per game and he will be looking to lead West Jordan to a state championship

Finally, we have Josh Robinson of Murray High School Josh is a senior center who has been dominant on both ends of the floor all season. He averages 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 blocks per game, and he will be key to Murray’s chances of winning it all.

In the first round, we could see an upset in the 6A division between No. 3 West and No. 14 East. West is coming off a loss to East in the Regular Season finale, so they’ll be looking to prove that they’re the better team.

In the 2A division, No. 5 Panguitch could pull off an upset against No. 12 Monticello. Panguitch has been playing well lately and they have the home-court advantage in this one.

And in the 1A division, don’t be surprised if No. 10 Green River upsets No. 7 Piute. Green River is a dangerous team that could make a run in the playoffs.

The dark horses in the playoffs

One team to keep an eye on is the West Jordan Jaguars. The Jaguars have been on a tear lately, winning 12 of their last 13 games. They are led by Senior guard Tyler Smith who is averaging 19 Points per game

Another team to watch out for is the East High school Leopards. The Leopards finished the regular season with a record of 17-5 and are led by junior guard Jaden Saunders, who is averaging 18 points per game

The Cinderella stories in the playoffs

The girls’ and boys’ basketball playoffs in Utah begin this week and there are many interesting matchups. Some of the teams that made it into the playoffs are considered underdogs or “Cinderella stories.” Here are some of those teams:

On the boys’ side, Ogden High School is the 14th seed but they have upset potential. They finished the Regular Season with a 10-10 record but they played in a tough region. They open up the playoffs against third-seeded Fremont high school who is 16-6 on the year.

Another boys’ Cinderella story is Skyline high school who is the 13th seed. They finished 11-9 on the year but they, too, played in a tough region. Their first Playoff Game is against fourth-seeded West Jordan high school who is 15-7 on the year.

On the girls’ side, View High School enters the playoffs as the 11th seed with a 9-11 record. They play sixth-seeded Brighton high school in their opening game. Brighton is 14-6 on the year but Timpview has upset potential.

Another girls’ Cinderella story is Highland high school who enters the playoffs as the 12th seed with an 8-12 record. They will take on fifth-seeded Ber High School in their opening game. Weber is 15-5 on the year but Highland will be looking to pull off an upset.

The underdogs in the playoffs

1.The Salt Lake City School District is sending four teams to the playoffs this year, and all of them are underdogs. The first round matchups are:

--Olympus High School (13-10) vs. Davis High School (19-4)
-Jordan High School (11-12) vs. Skyline High School (18-5)

2.Region 8 is always one of the toughest regions in the state, and this year is no different. There are four teams in the playoffs from this region, and all of them have a chance to make a run. The first round matchups are:

-(8) Mountain Crest high school (17-6) vs. Pleasant Grove High School (18-5)
-(5) Roy high school (16-7) vs. Clearfield high school (15-8)
-(6) Fremont high school (15-8) vs. Layton High School (14=9)

In Class 6A, the favorite to win it all is East High School East is led by star player Jabari Parker, who is one of the top recruits in the country. They also have a strong supporting cast, including big man Simon Tabu, who gives them a lot of size and strength down low.

In Class 5A, the favorite is Highland high school Highland is led by a trio of talented guards: Tyler Haws, Jonathon Loyd, and freshman phenom Bryce Alford. All three of these players can score in a variety of ways and they will be tough to stop for any team that they come up against.

Class 4A is wide open this year, but the team to watch out for is Spanish Fork high school Spanish Fork has a balanced attack with multiple players who can score and they also have good size down low with center Zac Seljaas.

In Class 3A, the favorite is Richfield High School Richfield has one of the best players in the state in point guard Nate Betts. Betts is a very quick player with great vision and he always seems to make the right play when his team needs it most. He will be leading a deep and talented Richfield squad that will be tough to beat.
