The rules of high school Basketball
Basketball is a sport played by two teams of five players each on a rectangular court. The objective is to shoot a ball through a hoop eighteen inches in diameter and ten feet high mounted to a backboard at each end of the court. The game is played on a rectangular floor called the court, and there is a hoop at each end. The game begins with a jump ball at center court between two opponents. Players can move the ball by dribbling or passing it to their teammates. The team that scores the most points wins the game.
In order to score points players must shoot the ball through the hoop. The hoop is eighteen inches in diameter and ten feet high, and it is mounted to a backboard at each end of the court. There are three different ways to score in basketball:
-A field goal is worth two points, and it is scored by shooting the ball through the hoop from anywhere on the court.
-A free throw is worth one point, and it is awarded after a player is fouled while shooting a field goal attempt. The player then gets to take one shot from the Foul Line which is fifteen feet from the basket.
-A Three-Point Shot is worth three points, and it can be scored from anywhere behind the three-point line which is twenty feet from the basket.
