They finished the season with a 267 record (126 in Big Ten play), finishing in a tie for second place behind Michigan State As the No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament they defeated Iowa and Wisconsin before losing to Michigan State in the semifinals. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 6 seed in the South Region, where they defeated Loyola (MD) before losing to Kentucky in the second round.

The Buckeyes are currently coached by Thad Matta. The Buckeyes play their home games at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio. The team’s facilities are also located in the adjacent Jerome Schottenstein Center.
The Buckeyes share a classic rivalry with the Xavier Musketeers and hold a 97-54 series lead. They also have rivalries with the Michigan State Spartans Indiana Hoosiers Purdue Boilermakers Illinois Fighting Illini and the Kentucky Wildcats Ohio State ranks fourth in wins among all NCAA Division I basketball programs and fifth all-time winning percentage (.711). The Buckeyes season started out with a convincing win over Wright State but they would drop their next four games all against ranked opponents. After losing to No. 3 Duke, then-No. 10 Louisville, No. 9 North Carolina and No. 2 Kansas, Ohio State righted the ship with a win over VMI. The Buckeyes would then go on to win 12 of their next 13 games, including signature wins over No. 8 Michigan State and No. 7 Wisconsin.

In 1928, Ohio State won its first ever conference title That same year, they were selected to represent the United States in the 1928 Summer Olympics and won their first Olympic gold medal defeating Poland in the Championship game
Ohio State has played in 28 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournaments (through 2020), reaching the Elite Eight ten times and holding a tournament record of 3525 (.583). Overall, the Buckeyes have an all-time record of 1,9931,054 (.655).Following their run to end the season as conference champions in 2020-21, Holtmann’s squad earned a No. 2 seed in NCAA Tournament East Region and will face Oral Roberts on Friday Night in Indianapolis.
