Introduction

In order to get to know the Elon Basketball Roster it is important to understand the basics of the game. Basketball is a sport that involves two teams of five players each trying to score points by shooting a ball through a hoop. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

There are a variety of positions on a basketball team and each player has unique skills and abilities that contribute to the team’s success. To get to know the Elon Basketball Roster it is helpful to understand the different positions and what each player brings to the team.

The point guard is often considered the leader of the team on the court. They are responsible for running the offense and making sure that everyone is in the right place. The point guard needs to have good Court Vision and be able to make quick decisions. They also need to be able to handle the ball well and be a good shooter. Tyler Seibring is one of our point guards and he is from Deerfield, Illinois. He is 6’7″ tall and weighs 200 pounds.

The shooting guard is another important position on the team. They need to be able to shoot well from long range and be able to score points quickly. The shooting guard also needs to be good at dribbling and making passes. Freshman Hunter McIntosh is one of our Shooting Guards He comes from Alpharetta, Georgia and he is 6’4″ tall and weighs 185 pounds.

The small forward is a versatile player who can do a little bit of everything on the court. They need to be able defend well, rebound, and shoot from long range. The small forward also needs good court awareness and be able communicate well with their teammates. Senior Dainan Swoope is one our small forwards He comes from Paterson, New Jersey and he 6’5″ tall and weighs 210 pounds.

The Power Forward is another versatile player who can do a little bit of everything on the court like the small forward but they are usually bigger and stronger than the Small Forward power forwards needto be good at rebounding, scoring in close, and defending bigger players down low in post up situations offensively; while still being able maintain good positioning on defense against smaller quicker players . One of out Power Forwards Jonah Antoniois originally from Sydney Australia but came here when he was 12 years old he attended Stoneridge Prep in California before coming here he’s 6’5” 225lbs .

Lastly we have Centers who play near basket they are ussually taller then every one else on court so they have an advantage when it come so blocking shots , rebounding ,and intimidating other teams . Our Center Kohl Roberts come all way from Auckland ,New Zealand he attended Christian Heritage NZ before coming here ,he’s 7 feet tall 260lbs . The Starters

The starters for the Elon Men’s Basketball team are as follows:

· Senior guard/forward Tyler Seibring – Tyler is a 3-time All-CAA selection and was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2019. He is the school’s all-time leader in 3-point field goals made (263) and ranks second in blocked shots (140).

· Junior guard/forward Sheldon Eberhardt – Sheldon was named to the All-CAA Second Team in 2019 after averaging 13.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game He is an excellent shooter from long range, hitting 37.5% of his 3-point attempts last season.

· Senior forward Steven Santa Ana – Steven was an All-CAA Honorable Mention selection in 2019 after averaging 11.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game He is a versatile player who can shoot from long range or score inside the paint.

· Junior forward/center HunterMaps – Hunter averaged 7.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game last season as he solidified himself as a starter during conference play He is a physical presence inside the paint who can also step out and hit a jumper if needed.

· Sophomore guard Identification numberForIke Nweke – Ike burst onto the scene as a freshman, starting 29 games and averaging 9.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while being named to the All-CAA Rookie Team. He is an excellent all-around player who can do a little bit of everything on the court.

The Bench

While the starting lineup may get all of the glory, every good team knows that it takes a full roster to win games. Here is a look at the players coming off the bench for the Elon Men’s basketball team

-KC Elliott: A 6’9″ forward from Charlotte, KC is in his first year with the team. He provides size and strength down low, and is a tenacious rebounder.
-Michael Rich: A 6’5″ guard from Atlanta, Michael is a versatile player who can score, rebound, and handle the ball. He adds depth to the backcourt and is a strong defender.
-Tommy Boland: A 6’7″ forward from Boston, Tommy is a skilled shooter who can stretch the defense with his long-range shooting ability. He also has a High Basketball IQ and is a good passer.

The Coaching Staff

Elon University’s Men’s Basketball Program is led by Head Coach Mike Schrage. He is assisted by four full-time assistant coaches and one director of player personnel The Phoenix also has two graduate assistants and a strength and Conditioning Coach

Lamont Simpson is in his first year as an Assistant Coach after serving as a video coordinator at the University of South Carolina He played collegiately at Charlotte from 2005-09.

Robert Moir enters his second season on the Elon staff and was promoted to assistant coach in May 2018 after serving as the program’s director of player personnel for a year. Prior to his arrival at Elon, Moir worked on staffs at UMass-Lowell, Bryant, Northeastern and Holy Cross

Mikki Turner is in her second season as an assistant women’s basketball coach and first as recruiting coordinator. She came to Elon after serving on head coach Leslieley Horn’s staff at Tennessee Tech during the 2016-17 season

Jonathan Harris is in his first season working with the Phoenix as an assistant coach after spending two years as an assistant at East Carolina A former player at James Madison Harris has also had stops coaching at George Mason Virginia Commonwealth and Norfolk State

The Team’s History

Elon University’s men’s Basketball team is currently in its 13th season of NCAA Division I play. The school made the switch from Division II in 2006 and joined the Southern Conference in 2014.

The Phoenix have captured two conference championships in their short time in D-I. They won the SoCon North Division in 2008 and again won the division title in 2010. The team has also made two appearances in the conference tournament Championship game but has yet to come away with a tournament title.

In 2009, Elon Head Coach Matt Matheny led the Phoenix to their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance. The 15th-seeded Phoenix fell to 2nd-seeded Oklahoma 89-81 in the first round of the event.

The Team’s Record

Elon University’s men’s basketball team has seen a lot of success in recent years The team has made it to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament three times in the last six years, and they have a strong fan base. Here is a look at the team’s record over the last six years:

2013-14: 21-12 (10-8 in conference)

2014-15: 29-7 (16-2 in conference)

2015-16: 24-9 (13-5 in conference)

2016-17: 27-7 (15-3 in conference)

2017-18: 25-9 (13-5 in conference)

2018-19: 26-7 (14-4 in conference)

The Team’s Rivals

Elon’s Men’s basketball team has some long-standing rivals, as well as some newer ones. Here are some of the teams they love to beat (or love to lose to).

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill – Chapel Hill is only about an hour away from Elon, so this is a natural rivalry. The two teams have been playing each other since 1909, and UNC currently holds the advantage with a 93-52 record.

Duke University – Another nearby school, Duke and Elon have been playing each other since 1910. Duke currently leads the series 84-52.

The University of Virginia – UVa is another one of Elon’s in-state rivals. The two teams have played each other nearly 100 times, with UVa leading the series 54-37.

Davidson College – Davidson is a small private school in North Carolina that has had a lot of success in basketball in recent years Davidson and Elon have only played each other 18 times, but the games are always competitive. Davidson leads the series 11-7.

The Team’s Fans

Whether you’re a casual fan or a die-hard supporter, there’s no doubt that the Elon basketball team has some of the best fans in the country. From the “Fire and Brimstone” pep band to the “Alley Cat” student section the team’s fans are passionate and vocal. And they definitely know how to have a good time.

If you’re planning on attending an Elon game, here are a few things you should know about the team’s fans:

They love to make noise. The pep band is always blasting out tunes and the student section is always on their feet, cheering and chanting. If you want to join in, be prepared to be loud!

They love to dress up. Whether it’s wearing face paint or dressed in Elon gear from head-to-toe, the team’s fans love to show their School Spirit

They love to have fun. From cheering on the team to participating in halftime shows the fans at an Elon basketball game are there to have a good time. So if you’re looking for a fun and spirited atmosphere, an Elon game is definitely the place to be.

The Team’s Home Court

Elon University’s men’s basketball team is known as the Phoenix, and they play their home games in Alumni Gym. The team is currently a Division I member of the Colonial Athletic Association. The Phoenix are led by Head coach Mike Schrage, who was hired in 2019.

The team’s home court is Alumni Gym, which is located on campus in Elon, North Carolina The gym has a capacity of 1,600 fans and was built in 1939. It is one of the oldest NCAA Division I basketball venues still in use today.

Tyler Seibring – Senior forward from Hinsdale, Illinois. Seibring is the team’s leading returning scorer and rebounder, averaging 14.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game last season. He was named Second Team All-CAA last year and will be counted on to lead the team once again this season.

Dmitri Thompson – Junior guard from Charlotte, North Carolina Thompson was one of the team’s best three-point shooters last season, shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc. He will look to provide a spark off the bench again this year and will be counted on to hit Big Shots when called upon.

Ogugua Anunoby – Sophomore guard from London, England. Anunoby missed large chunks of last season due to injury but is healthy and ready to contribute this year. He is a very talented player with a lot of potential and will look to carve out a role in the rotation this season.

Sheldon Eberhardt – Freshman guard from Toronto, Canada. Eberhardt is one of four freshmen on the team and will look to provide depth at the guard position this season. He is a very talented player who has a bright future ahead of him at Elon.

Kenton Eskridge – Freshman forward from Charlotte, North Carolina Eskridge is another talented freshman who will look to contribute right away for the Phoenix. He has good size at 6’8” and should see time at both forward positions this season.

Braxton Key – Freshman guard from Charlotte, North Carolina Key was originally committed to play at Alabama before coming to Elon, so he arrives with high expectations. He has good size for a guard at 6’8” and should see time at both guard positions this season
