1. Chamique Holdsclaw
Holdsclaw is a retired professional player who is widely considered to be one of the greatest players of all time. She led her team to four straight State Championships and was named a McDonald’s All-American. She went on to have an incredible college career at the University of Tennessee where she was a three-time All-American and won two National Championships She was the first overall pick in the 1999 NBA draft and had a successful professional career, being named to six All-Star teams.

2. Katie Smith
Smith is a retired professional player who is considered one of the best shooters in Basketball History She played high school basketball in Ohio, where she won a state championship and was named a McDonald’s All-American. She had an outstanding college career at Ohio State University winning two national championships. As expected ,she was highly recruited coming out of highschool and eventually chose Baylor University . While attending Baylor , Griner became onlythe second NCAA Division 1 women’s basketball player ever to record 2 000 points ,500 blocks ,and 100 dunks in their collegiate career(the other player being Tina Thompson ) . Brittneygrinner set or tied 14 NCAA Division 1 records during her collegiate days .. After being drafted number one overall by phoenix mercury in 2013 NBA draft ,Griner helped lead them mercury to their third NBA Finals appearance that very same year(losing ot minnesota Lynx ) but would get revenge 4 years later when they met againin the finals ,this time defeating minnesota en route to their 3 championship .

The top 5 Texas high school girls basketball rankings have been determined by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) since 1981. The list is compiled by a committee of TABC-selected media members who choose the top 25 teams in the state, regardless of classification.

The top 5 teams in the state are typically from the largest classification, 6A, but that has not always been the case. In 1998, for example, all five of the top-ranked teams were from Class 4A.

There have been many Great players and teams throughout the history of the rankings, but a few stand out above the rest. The Duncanville Pantherettes, for example, are the only team to be ranked #1 in every single TABC poll since 1981. They have also won more state championships than any other team in Texas, with 10 total.

Similarly, Charismatic Doddridge (from Tyler) holds the record for most consecutive weeks at #1 in the rankings, with 90 weeks from 1982-1985. Doddridge was also the first team to be unanimously voted #1 in all nine district polls.

Other notable teams include The Colony (which was ranked #1 for an unprecedented 60 weeks straight from 2013-2015), as well as Amarillo Tascosa and Clear Creek (which have each been ranked #1 for 42 weeks).
