William Woods University’s athletics program has a long and proud tradition of success. This is especially true of the Owls baseball team which has a rich history dating back to the early days of the school.
The Owls have been playing baseball since 1892 and have won eight conference championships in that time. The team has also made three appearances in the NCAA Division II World Series most recently in 2004.
In recent years the Owls have been one of the top teams in the Midwest, finishing in the top four of the Conference Standings in four of the last five seasons. The team has also had great success in recruiting, bringing in some of the top High School players from around the country.

The William Woods University Owls Baseball Team has a long and proud tradition of success, dating back to its founding in 1892. The team has won multiple conference championships and made several appearances in the NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament In recent years the Owls have become one of the top baseball programs in the Midwest, consistently ranked among the top 25 teams in the region.
The Owls play their home games at historic Hatch Field, located on the William Woods campus in Fulton, Missouri. The field is one of the most picturesque venues in Collegiate Baseball and has been featured in multiple national publications.

William Woods University has a long and proud tradition of excellence in baseball, dating back to the early days of the sport on campus. The Owls have produced some of the finest players in school history, many of whom have gone on to successful careers in professional baseball
Among the most notable alumni are Lou Gehrig one of the greatest sluggers in baseball history and Cy Young, who holds the record for most career wins. Other standout players include Hall of Famer Walter Johnson, Josh Beckett, a two-time World Series winner with the Boston Red Sox and Albert Pujols one of the most accomplished hitters of his generation.
In recent years William Woods has continued to produce top-notch talent, with several Owls prominently featured in Major League Baseball These include All-Star catcher Yadier Molina relief pitcher Trevor Rosenthal, and infielder Matt Carpenter

The team has won numerous conference and Regional Championships and has made several appearances in the NCAA Division II World Series In addition, many of the team’s players have gone on to have successful careers in Professional Baseball
The team’s most recent success came in 2013, when it won the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) regular season and tournament championships, and made it to the NCAA Division II World Series for the second time in school history. The team finished the season with a record of 45-16, setting a new school record for wins in a single season.

The William Woods Baseball coaching staff is a team of experienced and dedicated coaches who are committed to helping their players succeed on the field and in life. Head Coach Jerry Best has over 30 years of experience coaching baseball and his assistant coaches have a wealth of knowledge and experience as well. The coaches work tirelessly to help their players develop their skills and grow as people.
Coach Best played baseball at William Woods University from 1977-1981, and he has been the head coach of the WWU Baseball Team since 2004. He has led the Owls to four conference championships and five NAIA World Series appearances. Coach Best was named the conference Coach of the Year four times, and he was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 2009.

Assistant coach Ryan Robbins joins the Owls after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Freed-Hardeman University. Prior to his time at FHU, Robbins served as a graduate assistant at Middle Tennessee State University where he worked with hitters and infielders. Robbins also spent time as a Head Coach in the Washington Wild Things organization of the Frontier League
