Elder was drafted by the Braves in the 33rd round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft out of Walton High School in Marietta, Georgia. He made his professional debut that year with the Gulf Coast League Braves, pitching in six games. In 2014, he pitched for the Danville Braves of the Appalachian League and compiled a 3-3 record with a 2.63 earned run average (ERA) in 13 games started.

Elder began the 2015 season with the Rome Braves of the Class A South Atlantic League He was promoted to the Carolina Mudcats of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League during the season. In 27 games started between Rome and Carolina (26 starts), he compiled an 8-7 record with a 2.80 ERA.

The Braves added Elder to their 40-man roster after the 2015 season. He spent the 2016 season pitching for both the Mississippi Braves of the Class AA Southern League and Gwinnett Braves of the Class AAA National League compiling a combined 8-11 record with a 3.93 ERA in 28 starts between both teams

Early life

Bryce Elder was born on October 10, 1996, in Austin, Texas. He attended Westlake high school in Austin, where he played baseball. As a senior in 2015, he posted an 11–2 win–loss record and a 0.69 earned run average (ERA), and was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Texas. He committed to play college baseball at the University of Texas.

College career

As a freshman at Texas in 2016, Elder appeared in 12 games (starting four), recording a 2–1 win–loss record and a 5.68 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 36 2⁄3 innings pitched In 2017, as a sophomore, he became the Longhorns’ Saturday starter (their number two starter), going 4–4 with a 3.90 ERA in 13 starts; he struck out 73 batters over 65 innings pitched. After the season, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod baseball league (CCBL). In 2018, as a junior, he moved into the ace role for Texas’s pitching staff (their number one starter), compiling an 8–5 record and 2.72 ERA along with 100 strikeouts over 108 innings pitched; his ERA was second among Big 12 Conference pitchers behind teammate Blaine Knight . After the season Elder was drafted by the Colorado Rockieswiththe220thoverallpickintheDraft but opted to return for his senior year instead of signing.[9][10]

Bryce Elder, born September 21, 1995, is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Oakland Athletics organization.

Elder was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 37th round of the 2016 major league baseball draft out of the University of Texas. He signed with the Braves and was assigned to their rookie League team After one pitching appearance, he was promoted to the Danville Braves of the Appalachian League. In nine games (six starts) between the two clubs, he went 0–2 with a 4.50 ERA.[1] He spent 2017 with Danville and Rome, going a combined 5–3 with a 2.07 ERA in 16 1⁄3 innings pitched.[2]

Elder began 2018 back with Rome, where he pitched to a 9–1 record and 2.09 ERA in 14 2⁄3 innings pitched.[3][4] He was promoted to High-A Florida Fire Frogs on May 14.[5] With Florida he compiled a 6–4 record with a 3.55 ERA in 139 innings.[6] Following the season, Elder played for Team USA in the 2019 WBSC Premier12.[7]

Elder was added to Oakland’s 40-man roster following the 2019 season.[8]

Elder recorded a 3.00 ERA over 27 innings pitched in his minor league career. He struck out 32 batters and walked 12. Bryce Elder tragically passed away on March 25, 2020, at the age of 23, after suffering a brain hemorrhage.
