CCNY Baseball: A Team on the Rise

The CCNY Beavers Baseball Team is on the rise. After years of struggling, the team has made great strides under the leadership of Head Coach Sean Donnelly.

In 2015, the Beavers finished with a record of 24-20, their best record in years. They also made it to the semifinals of the CUNYAC tournament, where they ultimately lost to eventual champions Lehman College.

Despite the loss, it was clear that CCNY was a team on the rise. They had finally begun to turn things around after years of struggle.

Under Coach Donnelly’s tutelage, CCNY has become a force to be reckoned with in CUNYAC baseball. In 2016, they finished with an even better record of 27-17 and made it all the way to the CUNYAC Championship game where they lost to Lehman once again.

Although they came up short again, it is clear that CCNY baseball is a team on the rise. With Coach Donnelly at the helm, they are sure to continue making strides and becoming one of the top teams in CUNYAC baseball.

The team was founded in 1903 and was one of the original members of the Intercollegiate Baseball Association (now the NCAA). They enjoyed moderate success in their early years, but their fortunes began to turn in the 1920s when they won their first National Championship

Since then, CCNY’s baseball team has been a force to be reckoned with, winning several more National Championships and producing a number of Major League players. They are currently ranked among the top 20 college baseball programs in the country and show no signs of slowing down.

In recent years CCNY baseball has seen a resurgence under the leadership of Head Coach Ray Baidoo and his assistant coaches Rick Rodriguez and Manny Macedo. The team has won two CUNYAC championships in the last four years and made it to the semifinals last season.

This year, the Beavers are off to a hot start with a 6-1 record in conference play They are led by a group of talented seniors, including CUNYAC Player of the Week Nick Peel, who is hitting .500 with four home runs and 17 RBIs.

The team’s success is a result of the hard work of the Coaching Staff and players. Coach Baidoo has instilled a winning culture at CCNY, and the players have bought in. The future is bright for CCNY baseball!

The City College of New York has fielded a Baseball Team since the program’s inception in 1903. The team has seen a lot of success over the years, winning 16 CUNYAC championships and making 10 appearances in the NCAA Division III tournament.

The current team is filled with talented players, many of whom have gone on to have successful professional careers. Here is a look at some of the most notable CCNY baseball alumni

Doug Dascenzo: A former Major League Baseball player, Dascenzo played center field for the Chicago Cubs Cleveland Indians and San Diego Padres He was known for his excellent defense and was named to the National League All-Star team in 1991.

Scott McGregor: A left-handed pitcher, McGregor had a successful 14-year career in Major League Baseball He played for the Baltimore Orioles and won 177 games, including a career-best 17-8 record in 1980. He was also named to the American League All-Star team in 1982.

Carlos Delgado: One of the best power hitters of his generation, Delgado hit 473 home runs during his 17-year MLB career. He played for several teams, including the Toronto Blue Jays Florida Marlins, and New York Mets In 2000, he was named American League MVP after hitting 42 home runs and driving in 145 runs.

CCNY Baseball: The Schedule

This season, the CCNY Beavers will be looking to build on their strong showing from last year. The team finished the 2018 campaign with a record of 21-12, good for second place in the CUNYAC conference. They will once again be led by Head coach Mike versage, who is entering his ninth season at the helm.

The Beavers will open their season on March 1st with a Home game against John Jay College. They will then hit the road for a four-game road trip taking on Hartwick College, Alfred State Ithaca College, and SUNY Cortland. After returning home for a game against Baruch College, they will head back out on the road for another four-game road trip. This time they will take on SUNY Brockport, Buffalo State, SUNY Fredonia, and Oswego State.

The Beavers will return home for a six-game homestand beginning on March 29th. This homestand will feature games against conference foes Lehman College and Hunter College, as well as non-conference matchups Kean University and Montclair State University CCNY will then close out their regular season with three straight road games against conference opponents Queens College and Brooklyn College before finishing up with a non-conference game at Rutgers University Newark.

The Beavers are led by senior captain and pitcherChristian Adames, who was named CUNYAC Pitcher of the Year after going 7-1 with a 2.48 ERA in 2019. Adames will be joined by fellow senior pitchersDylan Brown (4-2, 4.50 ERA) and Jonathan Vasquez (3-1, 5.40 ERA) in the CCNY rotation.

The Beaver lineup is filled with young talent, including sophomore first baseman/outfielder Brandon Rodriguez (.354 batting average 9 home runs 34 RBI), sophomore second baseman/outfielder Jose Rivera (.333 batting average 1 home run 15 RBI), and freshman third baseman/outfielder Jordan Schneider (.321 batting average 3 home runs 24 RBI). Freshman outfielder Emilio Nunez (.289 batting average 1 home run 15 RBI) rounds out an potent offensive attack for CCNY.
