He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the first round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft out of Calhoun High School Culberson made his debut with the Braves’ rookie level Gulf Coast League team in 2007. He played for the Braves’ Class A Rome Braves in 2008 and 2009.

Culberson was traded to the San Francisco Giants organization in 2010 as part of a deal that sent Javier Lopez to the Braves. He played for the Giants’ Class A-Advanced San Jose Giants and Double-A Richmond Flying Squirrels in 2010 and 2011. The Giants promoted Culberson to the Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies in 2012. He made his Major League debut with the Giants on September 1, 2012.
