A Look at the Season

The University of Cincinnati women’s basketball team is off to a great start this season. The team has a record of 12-2 and is ranked No. 15 in the country. The Bearcats have won eight games in a row, including a victory over then-No. 5 Louisville.

The Team

The Cincinnati Women’s Basketball team has been having a great season. They are currently ranked 4th in the nation, and have a record of 27-1. The team is led by seniors Lexie Brown and Lakiah Sims, who are both averaging over 17 points per game The team has been very successful this season, thanks to their strong defense and balanced scoring attack.

The team’s next game is against Xavier on February 17th.

The Schedule

The 2019–20 Cincinnati Bearcats women’s basketball team will represent the University of Cincinnati in the 2019–20 NCAA Division I women’s Basketball season The Bearcats, led by seventh year Head Coach Jamelle Elliott, will play their home games at Fifth Third Arena as members of the American Athletic Conference

The Bearcats finished the 2018–19 season 11–18, 4–14 in AAC play to finish in a tie for eleventh place. They lost in the first round of the AAC Women’s Tournament to UConn.

The Coaches

The Coaches:
Head coach Michelle Clark-Heard – In her fourth season at Cincinnati, Clark-Heard has guided the Bearcats to three consecutive postseason appearances, including back-to-back NCAA Tournament berths in 2017 and 2018. She is the only coach in school history to lead UC to three straight postseason appearances and has won 20 or more games in three of her four seasons.

Assistant Coaches:
Keith Starks – In his first season at Cincinnati, Starks comes to the Bearcats after serving as an assistant men’s basketball coach at IUPUI for the past two seasons. Prior to IUPUI, Starks was an assistant coach at McKendree University for five seasons. He has also been an assistant coach at Vincennes University Lincoln Trail College and Danville Area Community College

Nikki Fargas – In her first season at Cincinnati, Fargas comes to the Bearcats after spending the previous four years as head coach of the LSU women’s Basketball team During her time at LSU, she led the Tigers to a 99-41 record, three NCAA tournament appearances and one WNIT berth. Prior to LSU, Fargas spent six seasons as head coach of Pepperdine University where she amassed a 108-104 record.

The Players

This season, the Cincinnati Bearcats Women’s basketball team is led by senior guard Loren Crisler and junior guard Maia Brown. The team also features freshman guard Kendall Adams and junior forward Kayla Jones. Below is a look at some of the Key Players on this year’s squad.

Loren Crisler: A versatile player who can score, rebound, and defend, Crisler is the Bearcats’ go-to player in crunch time. The senior guard is averaging 12 points and five rebounds per game

Maia Brown: Brown is one of the Bearcats’ best outside shooters. The junior guard is averaging 10 points per game and shooting 42 percent from three-point range

Kendall Adams: A defensive specialist, Adams has been a key contributor off the bench for the Bearcats. The freshman guard is averaging two steals per game.

Kayla Jones: Jones gives the Bearcats a strong presence inside. The junior forward is averaging nine points and six rebounds per game

They have posted a 20-4 record, with their only losses coming against top-ranked teams in the country. The Bearcats are currently ranked number 17 in the nation, and are coming off of a victory in the American Athletic Conference tournament They will be looking to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament and will be a tough out for any team that they face.

The Legacy

Cincinnati women’s basketball is as legacy-rich a program as there is in college hoops. The Bearcats have won 25 conference championships made 15 appearances in the NCAA Tournament and have produced two Olympians and 10 NBA players

With all that success, it’s no wonder the Bearcats are one of the most popular teams in the city. And this season, they’re looking to add to their legacy.

It’s also made the Bearcats one of the most dangerous teams in the country on both ends of the court. Cincinnati is averaging 78 points per game while holding opponents to just 60 points per game – good for fourth best in Division I women’s basketball.
