CSUSB Basketball: A Look at the Upcoming Season
The CSUSB men’s Basketball team is gearing up for an exciting season. The team is led by Head Coach Jeff Oliver, who is entering his sixth season at the helm. The Coyotes are coming off a successful 2017-18 campaign in which they went 20-9 overall and 15-5 in conference play They also made an appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
This year, the team will look to build on that success and make a deep run in the tournament. They will be led by a core group of experienced players, including seniors Richard Townsend and Jamir abolition. Townsend was CSUSB’s leading scorer last season, averaging 16.9 points per game Abolition was second on the team in scoring, averaging 15.6 points per game
The Coyotes will also have a strong frontcourt, led by junior Jordan Riewer and sophomore Broderick Simpson. Riewer averaged 9.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season, while Simpson averaged 8.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game
With a solid mix of experience and talent, the CSUSB men’s basketball team is poised for a successful 18-19 season .
CSUSB Basketball: The Team
The CSUSB men’s Basketball team is coming off a great season in which they made it to the NCAA Division II tournament for the first time in school history. The team is looking to build on that success this upcoming season and with a strong core of returning players, they have a good chance to do just that.
The team is led by senior guard De’jon Davis, who was named first team all-conference last season. Davis is a dynamic scorer who can also dish out assists and he will be the focal point of the offense again this season. Other key returners include junior forward Jaylen Franklin and sophomore guard Jalen McMillan. Franklin is a tough defender and rebounder who can also score inside while McMillan is a good shooter who will provide some scoring punch off the bench.
The team will also have some new faces this season as well, including freshman guard Jordan Jackson and junior college transfer forward Jacoby Hurd. Jackson is a highly-touted recruit who has the potential to be a star at this level while Hurd is a big body who can help out on the glass.

CSUSB Basketball: The Schedule
The CSUSB men’s basketball team will have their season opener at home on Saturday, November 5th against Vanguard University. The Home game will be played in the Coussoulis Arena and is set to tip-off at 7:00 PM. This will be the only game that the Coyotes play in the month of November. In December, CSUSB will play six games, four of which being at home. The games in December are as follows:
12/2 vs Alaska Anchorage (7:00 PM)
12/5 vs San Diego (7:00 PM)
12/9 vs Concordia Irvine (7:30 PM)
12/11 vs Academy of Art (7:00 PM)
12/16 at Dixie State (6:00 PM)
12/18 at Grand Canyon (7:00 PM)
Looking at their schedule, the CSUSB men’s basketball team has some good games coming up in December that they could potentially win. With most of their games being at home, they should have a good chance to rack up some victories in front of their home crowd
CSUSB Basketball: The Roster
The Cal State San Bernardino men’s basketball team will feature a lineup this season that includes four returnees and six newcomers.
Among the returnees are two players who started a majority of the games last season in junior guard Jay Green and senior forward Bubba Johnson. Green, who averaged 11.6 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, will be looked upon to provide leadership on and off the court while Johnson, who averaged 10.1 points and 5.4 rebounds, will be counted on to be a force inside the paint.
Sophomore guard Darrien Horn will also return after seeing action in all 28 games last season, averaging 5.4 points per contest. The fourth returnee is junior center Milwaukee Molina, who played in 16 games as a reserve last year.
The six newcomers include a pair of Junior College transfers in 6-5 guard Anthony Thomas (Antelope Valley College) and 6-7 forward Joel Edpredson (Riverside City College). Thomas was named first team All-Foothill Conference as a sophomore after averaging 15.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and shooting 54 percent from the field, 46 percent from three-point range and 79 percent from the Foul Line Edpredson earned honorable mention All-Orange Empire Conference accolades as a sophomore after putting up 12 points and seven rebounds per contest while shooting 53 percent from the floor.
The other four newcomers are all true freshmen in 6-3 guard Jordan Brookins (Rialto/Eisenhower HS), 6-1 guard Michael Turner (Fontana/Aquinas HS), 6-9 forward Jamar Akoh (Moreno Valley/Rancho Verde HS) and 6-10 center Jacob Hazzard (San Bernardino/Pacific HS).

The CSUSB men’s Basketball team will be under the guidance of first year head coach Aaronmaker Lewis. Last season, the coyotes finished with an abysmal record of 3-27 and will look to turn things around with their new Head Coach Coach Lewis is a CSUSB alumni and played on the men’s Basketball Team from 2005-2009. In his senior year, he was voted MVP by his teammates. After his playing career, he became an Assistant Coach for the team from 2010-2012. He then took a hiatus from coaching to pursue a business venture, but he’s back and ready to lead the Coyotes to victory. He has stated that his goals for the team are to make the playoffs and win a conference championship
The CSUSB women’s Basketball team will be coached by first year Head coach Preston Wynne. She played college basketball at Pepperdine University where she was a member of three WCC championship teams. After her playing career, she became an assistant coach at UC Riverside for one season before taking the head coaching job at CSUSB. In her first season as head coach she led the Coyotes to a 17-11 record and a berth in the conference tournament semifinals. She will look to build on that success in her second season at the helm.

CSUSB Basketball has some of the most passionate and die-hard fans in the country. The team’s home games are always packed, with students and community members cheering on the Coyotes. This season is shaping up to be an exciting one, and the fans will be a big part of it.

As the new season approaches, CSUSB fans are eager to see what the team will do in their new home arena. The Coyote Den is a state-of-the-art facility that will give the team a definite home court advantage Here are some facts about the arena:

-The arena is air conditioned
This is sure to be a season to remember for CSUSB basketball. With a new home arena and a talented group of players, the team is poised for success.
CSUSB Basketball: The History
CSUSB Basketball is a relatively new program, having only been established in 2006. The program has seen some success in recent years making it to the NCAA Division II tournament in 2014 and 2015. However, the team has yet to win a conference title or make it past the second round of the tournament.
The team is coming off of a 2016-2017 season in which they finished with a record of 21-9 (16-4 in conference play). They lost in the first round of the conference tournament and did not receive an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament
This season, CSUSB will look to build on their recent success and take the next step forward. They will have a young team, as they only have two seniors on their roster. But they do have a lot of talent, especially in the backcourt.
The schedule for this season has not been released yet, but we do know that CSUSB will open up their season at home against Azusa Pacific on November 10th. They will also have home games against UC San Diego (November 14th), Point Loma (November 17th), and Concordia (November 21st). CSUSB will look to make a run in the Conference Tournament and hopefully get an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament this season.

We are really excited about our team this year. We have a lot of new players who are going to make an immediate impact.
Q: Who are some of the key returners?
Some of the key returners for us this year include our leading scorer from last year, senior guard Samantha Prahl, as well as junior guard Courtney Jacinto, who was second on the team in scoring. We also have a lot of experience coming back in the post with seniors Alexia Thrower and Sierra Simpson.
Q: What kind of style do you play?
We like to play an up-tempo style and put pressure on the ball defensively. We want to be a team that is tough to play against and makes things difficult for our opponents.
Q: What are your goals for the season?
Our primary goal is always to win a Conference Championship and advance to the NCAA tournament Beyond that, we want to continue to develop our young players and build towards being a program that competes for championships on a regular basis.
