David Mackinnon has been playing baseball since he was a Young Boy He has been through a lot of ups and downs, but he has never given up on his dream of playing in the Major Leagues
Mackinnon was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the third round of the 2009 MLB Draft He played four years in the Cubs organization, but he was never able to make it to the big leagues In 2013, he was released by the Cubs and he spent a year out of baseball.
In 2014, Mackinnon decided to give baseball one more try. He signed with the independent Worcester Tornadoes and he had a very successful season He was named an all-star and he led the team to the playoffs.
After his success with the Tornadoes, Mackinnon finally got his chance to play in the big leagues He signed with the Boston Red Sox and made his debut in 2015. Mackinnon played two seasons with the Red Sox before retiring from baseball in 2016.

The road to the majors
David Mackinnon loves baseball. He grew up playing the game and dreamed of one day playing in the Major Leagues But when he was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the second round of the 2001 MLB draft he knew that his journey to the big leagues would be a long one.
Mackinnon spent four seasons in the Mariners’ minor league system, playing for their Single-A affiliate, the San Bernardino Spirit, and their Double-A affiliate, the Tacoma Rainiers. He finally got his chance to play in the majors in 2005, but he appeared in just four games for the Mariners before being released.
Mackinnon didn’t give up on his dream of playing in the majors, though. He signed with the Baltimore Orioles in 2006 and spent two seasons with their Triple-A affiliate, the Ottawa Lynx. He was released by the Orioles after the 2007 season, but he didn’t give up.
In 2008, Mackinnon signed with the independent Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League. He played well for them, posting a .305/.371/.484 batting line in 98 games, and he finally got his chance to play in the majors again when he was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates midway through the season.
Mackinnon appeared in just two games for the Pirates before being released, but he didn’t let that deter him. He continued to play in independent leagues until 2011, when he finally retired from baseball at age 32.
