Evangel Baseball is on the Rise

Introduction

The Evangel University baseball team is on the rise. After years of struggling, the team has made great strides under Head Coach Tim Hillesland.

In his four years at Evangel, Coach Hillesland has compiled a record of 238-99-1. That’s the most wins by any head coach in program history. Under his leadership, the team has won four conference championships and made three appearances in the NCAA Division II College World Series

This year, the team is off to a great start. They are currently ranked No. 1 in the nation with a record of 30-5.

The Team

Angel baseball is currently experiencing a surge in popularity. The team has seen a lot of success in recent years and this has led to an increase in fan support. While the team has traditionally been composed of players from the United States there has been an influx of International Players in recent years This has led to a more diverse and competitive team that is capable of contending for a championship.

The Schedule

The 2015 Evangel University Baseball Team had a historic season, and the schedule for the 2016 season has been released. The Crusaders will play a 56-game regular season beginning on February 5 with a three-game series against St. Thomas (TX) at Chuck Grey Memorial Field in Arlington, TX.

The home opener is set for February 19 against UT-Permian Basin. Other home games include: Oral Roberts (March 18-20), Kansas State (March 25-27), Dallas Baptist (April 8-10), Missouri State (April 22-24), and Arkansas-Little Rock (May 13-14).

The schedule also features 21 road games, including trips to Arizona State (Feb. 12-14), Louisiana Tech (March 4-6), Oklahoma State (March 11-13), and Texas A&M (April 1-3).

After winning the Heartland conference tournament championship and advancing to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional for the first time in program history, the Crusaders return 14 letterwinners from last year’s squad.

The Fans

The fans are the lifeblood of any baseball team and that is no different for the Evangel baseball team Our fans are some of the most passionate and dedicated in all of baseball, and they truly make our team what it is.

We would not be where we are today without the support of our amazing fans, and we cannot thank them enough for everything they have done for us. We would not be here without you, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for Evangel Baseball with you by our side.

The Rivalries

As the saying goes, to be the best, you have to beat the best. For Evangel baseball, that has meant taking down some of the top programs in the nation over the past few years.

In 2016, the Knights defeated then-No. 1 Oklahoma Baptist in Extra Innings handing the Bison their first regular season loss in over two years. A month later, Evangel toppled No. 2 Louisiana College in a thrilling come-from-behind victory.

Last season, the Knights added a trio of more ranked wins to their resume, including a 9-8 walk-off win over No. 7 Faulkner University.

The Post-Season

The Evangel Baseball Team is on the rise, particularly in the post-season. In the last two years, the team has made it to the conference championship game and this year they are determined to take it one step further.

The key to their success has been their pitching staff, which consists of senior ace Cole Hendershot, junior ace Zachary Reese, and sophomore relief pitcher Rylan Carey. This trio has been nearly unhittable all season long and they have no intention of slowing down now.

In addition to their strong pitching, the team has also been Hitting the ball well all season. Senior third baseman Alex Rodriguez has been leading the charge with a batting average of .345 and a team-leading eight home runs The rest of the lineup has been chipping in as well, with five different players batting over .300.

With Evangel’s strong pitching and hitting, they are a force to be reckoned with and they are poised to make a deep run in the post-season.

The Future

In just his second season at the helm, Fuller has led the team to a Conference Championship and a top-10 ranking in the nation. The team’s success is due in large part to Fuller’s recruiting efforts. He has brought in a number of talented young players who have quickly made an impact on the field.

With a core of young talent in place, the Evangel Baseball team looks poised to enjoy continued success in the years to come. Coach Fuller and his players are working hard to make sure that this is just the beginning of a new era of excellence for the program.

The Legacy

The Evangel University baseball program has a long and successful history. The team has won five conference championships and made ten appearances in the NAIA World Series In recent years the team has struggled, but they are rebounding under new Head coach Tim Siegel.

Evangel University is a private, Christian University located in Springfield, Missouri. The baseball team plays in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC). The team’s five conference titles were won in the Midwest Collegiate Conference (MCC) in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, and 1984. The team has made ten appearances in the NAIA World Series with their best finish coming in 1981 when they finished as runners-up.

In recent years, the team has struggled, but they are rebounding under new head coach Tim Siegel. Coach Siegel was hired in 2016 and he has already led the team to their first conference championship since 1984.
