Season Preview

The Georgia Southern Eagles men’s basketball team will begin their season on November 6th at home against West Georgia The Eagles are coming off a 20-15 season in which they made it to the semi-finals of the Sun Belt conference tournament head coach Mark Byington will be entering his third season with the team. The Eagles have high hopes for the upcoming season and are looking to make it to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history.

The team is led by senior guard Tookie Brown, who was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference team. Brown averaged 19.2 Points per game last season and is the leading returning scorer in the Sun Belt He will be joined in the backcourt by sophomores Ike Smith and Quan Jackson, who both saw significant playing time as freshmen last year.

In the frontcourt, the Eagles will be led by senior forward Jake Allsmiller and junior center Montae Glenn. Allsmiller averaged 10.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season, while Glenn averaged 5.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. The Eagles will also look to sophomore forward Amanze Ngumezi and freshman forward Isaac Edwards to contribute this season.

The Georgia Southern Basketball team’s season came to an end with a loss in the Sun Belt conference tournament Championship game The Eagles finished the season with a 22-11 record and a second place finish in the Sun Belt Conference regular season Georgia Southern earned a berth in the National Invitation Tournament but lost in the first round to Marshall.

During the off-season, there is always plenty of news and player movement around the NBA. The same can be said for the Georgia Southern basketball team Here is a quick update on what some of our players have been up to this summer:

Rookie point guard Trae Young has been getting great reviews in Las Vegas Summer League play. He is averaging 19.0 points and 8.7 assists in 30.7 minutes per game.

Forward John Collins has also been impressing in Las Vegas averaging 16.2 points and 9.4 rebounds in 25.6 minutes per game.

Meanwhile, veteran center Dewayne Dedmon has been busy working on his 3-point shot this summer. In an interview with NBC Sports Bay Area Dedmon said that he is hoping to add a 3-point shot to his repertoire this season.

Summer League
