Smith Field at Amerige Point Park in Fullerton, including three NESCAC West contests.

The Wesleyan Baseball Field

The Wesleyan baseball field is home to one of the most successful Collegiate Baseball programs in the country. Located in Central Connecticut Wesleyan has won nine NCAA Division III championships, most recently in 2017. The field is also home to the annual New England Intercollegiate baseball league (NEIBL) Championship game

The Fans of Wesleyan Baseball

Whereas most other programs in the NESCAC are have larger fanbases, Wesleyan baseball seems to suffer from a lack of attention from the student body. A walk around campus on game day reveals that many students are unaware of the game taking place or could not tell you who is playing. For such a prestigious academic institution, this lack of support for Baseball Team is puzzling.

A number of theories abound as to why this is the case. One is that because Wesleyan is located in Connecticut, a state without a professional Baseball team there is simply less interest in the sport. Another possibility is that because Wesleyan does not have a football team (and therefore lacks a fall sports season), students are less likely to be aware of or interested in any of the other sports teams on campus. Whatever the reason, it seems clear that Wesleyan baseball could use more support from the student body.
