From the small town of Fort Dodge, Iowa, comes a Community College team with big time aspirations. The Iowa Central baseball team is a group of young men led by head coach Marty Keaster, who have their sights set on making waves in the world of Collegiate Baseball
Having only been established in 2017, this team has already begun to turn heads. In 2018, their first season as a varsity sport at Iowa Central, the team finished with an impressive 34-19 record. They also won the NJCAA Region XI tournament and made it to the NJCAA Division II World Series where they eventually lost in the semi-finals.

The first and most obvious rivals are the other schools in Iowa’s junior college Athletic Conference (JCAC), which is made up of ten teams total. Of those, Iowa Central competes most frequently against Ellsworth Community College Marshalltown Community College and Iowa Lakes Community College The Tritons have also developed a strong rivalry with Kirkwood Community College which is not in the JCAC but is another Community College located in Iowa.
In addition to its intra-state rivals, Iowa Central has also played community colleges from neighboring states such as Nebraska, South Dakota and Minnesota. Of those teams, the Tritons have had the most success against Nebraska’s Southeast Community College and South Dakota’s Lake Area Technical Institute.
As the team continues to improve and add more wins to its record, it’s likely that these rivalries will only become more intense in the years to come.

The field was built in 2012 and is one of the best in the country for NJCAA Division III baseball It has a regulation-size infield and outfield, and the dimensions are identical to those of Major League fields. The playing surface is made of artificial turf, which is very rare for community college baseball fields. This turf allows the field to be used year-round, which is a huge advantage for a team that wants to practice and play as much as possible.
Thefield also has lights, which allow the team to practice and play games at night. This is another big advantage over other Community College teams, who often have to practice during the daytime because they don’t have access to lighted fields.
