Jeff Kinley’s Early Life

Jeff Kinley was born on October 15, 1965, in Pasadena, California. He grew up playing baseball and basketball in his hometown of Glendora. He attended High School at Glendora high school where he played shortstop on the varsity baseball team He was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 1983 MLB Draft but he did not sign with the team. Instead, he attended college at UCLA, where he played college baseball for the Bruins. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 1986 MLB draft and he signed with the team.

Jeff Kinley’s College Career

Jeff Kinley played college baseball at the University of Arizona from 1989 to 1992. He was a two-time All-American and helped lead the Wildcats to the College World Series in 1992. He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the first round of the 1992 MLB Draft

Jeff Kinley’s Professional Career

Jeff Kinley was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 6th round of the 1991 MLB amateur draft. He played in Minor League Baseball for the Giants organization from 1991 to 1994. In 1995, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs organization, where he played for the AA Orlando Cubs and the AAA Iowa Cubs He made his Major League Baseball debut with the Cubs on September 3, 1996. He appeared in four games for the Cubs that season, all in relief.

Kinley became a free agent after the 1997 season, and he signed with the Montreal Expos He spent most of the 1998 season with the AAA Ottawa Lynx, but he also made five relief appearances for Montreal that year. He was granted Free agency again after the 1998 season, and he siged with the Chicago White Sox He split the 1999 season between Chicago and AAA Charlotte Knights

Kinley became a free agent again after the 1999 season, and he signed with his fourth MLB team, the Pittsburgh Pirates For Pittsburgh, he only appeared in two games in 2000 before being released on May 15. He became a Free Agent again and signed with his fifth team, the Anaheim Angels, on June 1. However, he only appeared in one game for Anaheim’s AAA affiliate Salt Lake Stingers before being released on July 7. His professional career ended shortly thereafter.

Jeff Kinley’s Retirement

Jeff Kinley, former Boston Red Sox relief pitcher has announced his retirement from baseball. The 41-year-old left-hander made the announcement in a press conference at Fenway Park this morning, surrounded by family and friends.

Kinley began his career with the Red Sox in 2002, spending two seasons with the team before being traded to the Anaheim Angels in 2004. He went on to play for the Chicago Cubs San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners before returning to Boston in 2009. He spent his final three seasons with the Red Sox helping the team win the World Series in 2013.

In 14 seasons, Kinley compiled a record of 46-52 with a 3.84 ERA and 772 strikeouts.

Jeff Kinley’s Legacy

Kinley worked his way through the Mets’ organization, earning promotions to Class-A Advanced St. Lucie MetsoClass double-A Binghamton Metsoand Class triple-A Tidewater Tides. He made his Major League debut on June 18, 1992, pitching one inning of relief for the Mets against the Cincinnati Reds He appeared in four games for the Mets during his 1992 rookie season then was traded to the Montreal Expos on December 18, 1992, along with pitcher Mike Remlinger for outfielder TimLainehoofs and catcher Dave Lotton.

Jeff Kinley pitched parts of three seasons in Montreal’s bullpen before being traded to the San Francisco Giants on July 31, 1995, for minor league pitcher Steve Decker. He became a free agent following the 1996 season then signed with the Chicago Cubs on January 27, 1997. After one season with their triple-A affiliate Iowa Cubs during which he compiled a record of 8-2 with a 2.80 ERA in 41 relief appearances, Kinley became a Free Agent again and signed with Oakland Athletics on November 10th, 1997.

He spent most of his time in Oakland’s organization at triple-A Edmonton Trappers but made two appearances for them during September 1998 call-ups compiling an ERA of 9.00 between both Big League games he pitched that year. On November 16th, 1998 Jeff Kinley became a free agent once more and chose to sign back with the Chicago Cubs who assigned him to their new triple-A affiliate Nebraska Cornhuskers

After appearing in only 13 games for Nebraska duein large part to an early season injuryhe was released by Chicago on May 11th, 1999 bringing an end to Jeff Kinley’s professional baseball career

The family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1966, where Jeff attended Withrow high school After graduating from high school in 1974, he attended the University of Cincinnati on a baseball scholarship.
