The team has shown signs of improvement in each of the past few seasons. They have a young core of players who are committed to getting better. With continued hard work the McDaniel basketball team is poised to make noise in the conference in the coming years.

The team’s unselfishness

The McDaniel basketball team is a team on the rise. One of the things that makes them so special is their unselfishness. Every player on the team is willing to sacrifice their own personal goals for the good of the team.

This unselfishness was on full display during their recent game against rival Gettysburg College McDaniel was down by one point with just seconds remaining in the game. Instead of forcing up a shot, point guard Sammy Ellis passed the ball to forward Lena Raminski who hit the game-winning shot

After the game, Ellis said, “I just wanted to do whatever I could to help my team win. I knew that Lena had a better chance of making the shot than I did, so I just tried to get her the ball.”

Raminski echoed Ellis’s sentiments, saying, “We all just want to win. We don’t care who gets the credit as long as we get the W.”

This kind of selfless play is what makes McDaniel such a special team. They are a group of players who are truly dedicated to winning and will do whatever it takes to make that happen.

The team’s willingness to sacrifice

In order to build a successful Basketball Program a team must be willing to make sacrifices. The McDaniel Basketball team has shown a willingness to do what it takes to improve, and it is paying off.

The team’s commitment to each other

Since head coach Justin Rees took over the McDaniel men’s Basketball Program in 2012, the team has seen a steady rise in success.

This season, they are off to another great start with a record of 17-3 overall and 11-1 in conference play

One of the biggest reasons for their success has been their commitment to each other. “Our team motto is ‘One Team, One Goal’ and that’s something we live by,” says senior captain Jake Sperling. “We know that we can achieve anything as long as we are working together towards a common goal.”

This commitment was put to the test earlier this season when star player Mike Reiley went down with an ankle injury. “It was tough to see Mike go down because he’s such a big part of our team,” says Sperling. “But we all came together and picked each other up. We knew we had to do whatever it takes to win without him.”

And win they did! The team went on an 8-game Winning Streak after Reiley’s injury and they haven’t looked back since.

The lesson here is that when things get tough, you can always rely on your teammates to help you through it. That’s what makes this team so special – they know how to stick together through thick and thin.
