He is also one of only four players in NBA history to score more than 26,000 points without winning an NBA Championship

But perhaps Wilkins’ most amazing feat came during the 1986-87 season, when he scored 30 or more points in a game 45 times. That’s the second most 30-point games in a single season in NBA history behind only Michael Jordan’s 47 in 1986-87. And it’s not like Wilkins was playing for a bad team – the Hawks went 50-32 that season and made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals.

So how did Wilkins do it? Part of it was surely his natural ability, but he also worked very hard on his craft. In an interview with Dime Magazine, Wilkins’ former teammate Kevin Willis said that “Dominique would come in early before practice and work on his game.” And it showed – over his 15-year NBA Career Wilkins averaged 24.8 Points per game and became one of the most prolific scorers in league history.
