Williams is originally from Philadelphia and played his High School basketball at The Rise Academy, a Charter School located in Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood. He was ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 37 player in the class of 2020 by ESPN.

Aminu, meanwhile, was born in Atlanta to Nigerian parents and chose to represent Nigeria at the FIBA World Cup in 2010. He has spoken about how his Islamic faith has helped him become a better basketball player and how he hopes to use his platform to help break down stereotypes about Muslims.

With the drafting of Nassir Little, the Portland Blazers now have three Muslims on their roster; only the Houston Rockets have more (four). It will be interesting to see if this trend continues in future years, as it appears that Islam is becoming increasingly represented in professional basketball
