The rules of NBB basketball
Basketball is a sport played by two teams of five players on a rectangular court. The objective is to shoot a ball through a hoop 18 inches (46 cm) in diameter and 10 feet (3.048 m) high mounted to a backboard at each end of the court. The game was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith who would be the first basketball coach at the University of Kansas
Basketball is played on a rectangular floor called the court, and there is a hoop at each end. The primary rules of basketball are designed to enhance scoring. For example, no player is allowed to touch the ball with their hands during play except when shooting for goal or during a dunk, which is when the player jumps up and stuffs the ball into the hoop with one or both hands from above.
The game is played in four quarters of 10 (international) or 12 minutes (NBA). If the score is tied at the end of regulation time, then Overtime periods of 5 minutes are played until one team has scored more points than the other at the end of an overtime period
The history of NBB basketball
NBB basketball was founded in 2006 by current president, Craig Spence. The league began with six teams in the New York metropolitan area and has since expanded to include teams in Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and even Canada. The league’s original six teams were: the Brooklyn Kings, the Staten Land Sharks the New Jersey Blaze, the Queens court kings the Long Island Surf, and the Manhattan Pride. The first NBB season ran from November 2006 to March 2007, with the Brooklyn Kings taking home the Championship Title
In its twelve-year history, NBB has seen some incredible players come through its ranks. Notable alumni include current NBA players Kyrie Irving (Brooklyn Kings), Kemba Walker (Queens Court Kings), and Jimmy Butler (Staten Island Sharks).
