The Notre Dame Women’s Basketball Schedule Games to Attend
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s Basketball team looks to build off of their 27-win season from a year ago. Head Coach Muffet McGraw enters her 32nd season at the helm in South Bend and she has compiled an impressive 873-317 record in her time there. The Irish are coming off of a season in which they made it to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament before losing to the eventual National Champion the Baylor Lady Bears Despite that disappointing end to the season, there is a lot to be excited about for this Notre Dame team. They will have one of the best players in all of college basketball in senior guard Arike Ogunbowale, who averaged 20.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game last season. The Irish will also have another experienced senior leader in guard Jessica Shepard, who averaged 15.2 points and 9 rebounds per game as a junior. With those two leading the way, the Fighting Irish should be a force to be reckoned with on the court this season.
With that said, here are five games from the Notre Dame women’s Basketball Schedule that you won’t want to miss:
1) Notre Dame vs. Ohio State – November 11th
This will be the first true test for the Irish this season, as they take on a very good Ohio State team in Columbus. The Buckeyes are coming off of a 25-win season in which they made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before losing to eventual national runner-up Oregon. They will be led by senior guard Kelsey Mitchell who is one of the best scorers in all of college basketball (she averaged 24.9 points per game last season). This will be a great early-season matchup between two teams that could potentially see each other again come March Madness time.
2) Notre Dame vs. Louisville – January 11th
This is always one of the most anticipated games on Notre Dame’s schedule, as they take on their longtime rival Louisville Cardinals The Cardinals are coming off of a solid 22-win season in which they made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament before losing to eventual national champion Connecticut. They will be led by junior forward Myisha Hines-Allen, who averaged 16 points and 9 rebounds per game last season. This is sure to be a heated rivalry game, so make sure you don’t miss it!
3) Notre Dame vs UConn – January 31st
This is arguably the biggest game on Notre Dame’s schedule every year, as they take on perennial powerhouse Connecticut Huskies The Huskies are coming off yet another dominant season in which they won their fourth consecutive National Championship with a 32-0 record. They will be led by senior guard Katie Lou Samuelson who averaged 18 points and 5 rebounds per game last season. This is always an exciting game to watch, so make sure you tune in!
4) Notre Dame vs Duke – February 21st
This is another bignon-conference matchup for the Irish, as they take on Duke at home. The Blue Devils are coming off of a solid 22-win season in which they made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament before losing to South Carolina They will be led by junior forward Schaefer Gravity, who averaged 13 points and 6 rebounds per game last year . This should be a great game between two talented teams!
5) Notre Dame vs Clemson – February 28th
To close out their regular season schedule, Notre Dame takes on Clemson at home . The Tigers are coming off of an 18-win campaign last year , but they will be without star player Donte Grantham , who ruptured his ACL earlier this offseason . Despite that big loss , Clemson still has some solid players like junior forward Elijah Thomas , who averaged 12 points and 8 rebounds per game last year . This should be an interesting matchup , as both teams look to head into their conference tournaments on high notes !
