The Ole Miss basketball roster will feature a blend of veteran leadership and fresh talent this season. Head Coach Kermit Davis enters his second year at the helm of the Rebels, and he’ll have a more experienced squad at his disposal in 2019-20.

Ole Miss returns three starters from last year’s team that won 19 games and made it to the second round of the NIT. Senior guard Breein Tyree is the leading returning scorer after averaging 16.9 points per game last season. He’ll be joined in the backcourt by sophomore Devontae Shuler, who was one of the best Defensive Players in the SEC as a freshman.

In the frontcourt, senior forward Bruce Stevens returns after averaging 11.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season. He’ll be joined by junior forward Dominik Olejniczak, who started 23 games as a sophomore.

The Rebels will also have some new faces in 2019-20, as they bring in a five-man recruiting class that was ranked 20th in the nation by ESPN com. The class is headlined by five-star small forward Matthew Murrell, who is one of the highest-rated recruits in Ole Miss history.

Under the direction of head coach Kermit Davis, the Ole Miss Men’s Basketball team has seen a rebirth in recent years After going 15-17 in his first season at the helm in 2018-19, Davis led the Rebels to a 20-11 record last season and an appearance in the National Invitation Tournament

This year, Davis and his staff will be looking to take things one step further as they aim for an NCAA tournament berth. With a talented core of returning players and some key newcomers, Ole Miss has the pieces in place to make a serious run at March Madness

Here’s a look at the Coaching Staff that will be leading the way for the Rebels this season:

-Kermit Davis (Head Coach): In his third season at Ole Miss Davis has quickly turned things around in Oxford. A former Head Coach at Middle Tennessee State Davis is known for his defensive style of play and ability to develop players. He’ll be looking to lead the Rebels to their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2015 this season.

-Wesley McGriff (Associate Head Coach): A 30-year coaching veteran, McGriff joined Davis’ staff at Ole Miss in 2018. He has previous head coaching experience at Vanderbilt and Arkansas-Pine Bluff and has also served as an assistant at Auburn, LSU and Oklahoma State McGriff is widely respected within the coaching community, and he’ll be integral to Ole Miss’ success this season.

--Jonathan Holmes (Assistant Coach): Another key member of Davis’ staff, Holmes is in his second season with the Rebels after joining from Stony Brook in 2019. A former Division I Head coach himself, Holmes brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Ole Miss He’ll be responsible for helping develop the team’s big men this season.

-Tony Madlock (Assistant Coach): Madlock rounds out Davis’ staff, and like McGriff, he has extensive experience as a Division I Assistant Coach He’s been on staff at Ole Miss since 2018, and prior to that he spent time with programs like Missouri, Pittsburgh and Tulsa. Madlock is respected for his recruiting ability, and he’ll be pivotal in bringing top talent to Oxford in future seasons.
