The Team’s Schedule
The St. Cloud State University women’s basketball team has a busy schedule in the upcoming season The team will play a total of 30 games, including 16 games at home and 14 away games. They will also compete in the NSIC/Sanford Health tournament for the second year in a row.
The NSIC/Sanford Health tournament is a conference postseason tournament that will be held from March 4-7. The top eight teams in the conference will qualify for the tournament, and the St. Cloud State women’s basketball team is currently ranked sixth in the Conference Standings
The regular season will come to a close on February 29, when the team hosts Minnesota Duluth at home. The game will be senior night and it will also be the final Home game of the season.
After the regular season and NSIC/Sanford Health tournament, the team will hopefully qualify for the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament. She is one of the best Defensive Players in the conference and she has the ability to take over a game offensively when called upon.
seniors Kelsey Sowards and Hallie Beresford will provide leadership and experience for the Huskies. Sowards is a 6’1” forward who averaged 11 points and 5 rebounds per game last season while shooting 48% from the field. Beresford is a 5’8” point guard who averaged 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists per game while shooting 41% from three-point range Both players are versatile scoring threats who can also contribute on the defensive end of the floor.
The Huskies will also look to sophomore center Paige Bueckers to make a big impact this season. Bueckers is a 6’3” center who was named NSIC Newcomer of the Year and NSIC All-Conference second team last season after averaging 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game while shooting 54% from the field. Bueckers has already established herself as one of the best big men in the conference and she has only scratched the surface of her potential.
The Huskies have high expectations for this season and they should be in contention for both a Conference Championship and an NCAA tournament bid come March.
The Team’s Achievements
In the past decade, the St. Cloud State University women’s Basketball team has had much success. They have gone to the NCAA Division II tournament seven times, including five times in the last six years. They have also won five Regular Season conference championships and four conference tournament championships. The team is currently ranked No. 5 in the nation by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and No. 4 by D2SIDA.

In the frontcourt, junior forward Lauren Rasmussen will look to build on her impressive sophomore campaign in which she averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds per game She will be joined by senior forward Hanna Jones, who provides a veteran presence in the post. Jones averaged 8 points per game and 6 rebounds per game last season.
The team will also have contributions from several freshman, including guards Kennedy Johnson, Mya Williams, and Paige Johnson, who are all expected to see significant playing time this season.
