The Tennessee Volunteers Baseball Schedule A First Look
The Tennessee Volunteers baseball schedule is Here! A First Look: The 2021 Tennessee Volunteers Baseball Schedule has been released, and there are some interesting first looks. The Vols will open the season on the road against the Clemson Tigers on February 19th. This will be the first time these two teams have met since 2019. The next weekend, the Vols will travel to Blacksburg to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies.
The Tennessee Volunteers Baseball schedule Breaking Down the Opponents
With the college baseball season right around the corner, Volunteer fans can finally start to get excited about the upcoming year. Head Coach Tony Vitello and his squad will look to build off a strong 2019 campaign in which they went 44-20 and made it all the way to the NCAA Super Regionals
This year’s schedule features plenty of tough opponents, so let’s take a look at who the Vols will be facing off against in 2020.
First up are the Cincinnati Bearcats The Bearcats come into 2020 off a disappointing 2019 season in which they went 24-30. They’ll be looking to rebound under new head coach Scott Googins, who comes over from Xavier. The Bearcats are scheduled to visit Knoxville for a three-game series from February 14-16.
Next on the schedule are the Virginia Cavaliers The Cavaliers were one of the best teams in the country last year, going 42-15 and making it to the College World Series They’ll be looking to make another deep run in 2020 under Head Coach Brian O’Connor. The Vols travel to Charlottesville for a three-game series from February 21-23.
The Vols then have a quick turnaround, as they host Liberty for a three-game series from February 28-March 1. Liberty is coming off a 2019 season in which they went 30-30 under Head coach Scott Jackson. This will be the first ever meeting between these two schools on the diamond.
Following that is perhaps the toughest stretch of games on Tennessee’s schedule, as they host Missouri for a three-game series from March 6-8 and then travel to Baton Rouge to take on LSU from March 13-15. Missouri is coming off a down year in 2019, going 27-28 under Steve Bieser. However, they’re always dangerous and figure to be improved in 2020. LSU is one of the perennial powers in college baseball and they’ll be looking to make another run at a National Championship under head coach Paul Mainieri.
The Vols then have another quick turnaround, as they host East Tennessee State for a midweek game on March 17 before hitting the road again for a three game series at Kansas State from March 20-22. East Tennessee State is coming off an impressive 2019 campaign in which they went 41-17 under head coach Tony Skole. They’ll provide Tennessee with a tough test midweek before Tennessee heads west to take on Kansas State The Red Wolves are coming off a down 2019 season in which they went 25-32 under Tommy Raffo.
After that, it’s back home for another midweek game against Kentucky on March 24 before hosting Mississippi State from March 27-29 to close out March action. Kentucky is always one of Tennessee’s biggest rivals, so this should be an electric atmosphere at Lindsey Nelson Stadium when these two teams meet up midweek
