In just a few short weeks, High School basketball will be back in Full Swing For fans of the University of Central Florida, that means that it’s time to start getting excited for the upcoming season of UCF girls basketball

The UCF Knights have been one of the top teams in the American Athletic Conference over the past few years, and they show no signs of slowing down any time soon. Led by Head Coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, the Knights have a wealth of talent on their roster and are poised for another big season in 2019-20.

With that being said, let’s take a look at five UCF players that fans should keep an eye on this season:

1) Kay Kay Wright: The junior guard is one of the most electric players in the country and is coming off a 18-19 season in which she averaged 13.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game Wright is an excellent shooter from all over the court and has the ability to take over a game with her scoring. Look for her to be one of UCF’s go-to scorers once again this season.

2) Mya Meredith: A senior forward, Meredith is a versatile player who can do a little bit of everything on the court. She averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last season while also shooting 37 percent from three-point range Meredith is a key piece for UCF on both ends of the floor and will be counted on to provide leadership for this year’s team.

3) Nyala Shuler: Shuler is a 6’1” freshman guard who comes to UCF as one of the top recruits in the country. A consensus four-star recruit, Shuler was ranked as high as No. 33 in ESPN’s Top 100 prospects for 2019 and should make an immediate impact for the Knights this season. She has superb athleticism and a strong all-around skill set that should allow her to thrive at the collegiate level.

4) Aliyah Gregory: Another player who should make an immediate impact for UCF is freshman guard Aliyah Gregory. A five-star recruit according to ESPN, Gregory comes to UCF as one of the most highly touted prospects in program history. At 6’0” tall, she has great size for a guard and has the ability to score from anywhere on the court. Gregory should be one of UCF’s top offensive weapons from day one and will be fun to watch throughout her college career.

5) Brittney Smith: Smith is a 6’3” sophomore center who provides a big presence in the post for UCF . 1. Katie Abeyta – A senior guard, Abeyta is a 3-point shooting specialist that can knock down shots from anywhere on the court. She is also a very good defender and has the ability to create her own shot.

2. Shelby Danielson – A junior center, Danielson is one of the best post players in the state. She has a great back-to-the basket game and is an excellent rebounder.

3. Lindsey Douglas – A senior forward, Douglas is a very versatile player that can play both inside and out. She is a great shooter with range beyond the 3-point line and is also a very good rebounder and shot blocker.

1. Mia Davis – Point Guard
Davis is a 5 star recruit and the top ranked point guard in the country. She’s a playmaker on both ends of the court and has the ability to take over a game. She’s committed to play at the University of Connecticut next season.

2. Alexxus Wiley – Shooting Guard
Wiley is another 5 star recruit and one of the top shooters in the country. She has unlimited range and can knock down shots from anywhere on the court. She’s committed to play at Baylor University next season.

3. Angelina Wiltz – Small Forward
Wiltz is a versatile player that can score, rebound, and defend. She’s not afraid to take on any challenge and always puts the team first. Starting with number 5, we have junior point guard Casey Wickline. Casey is a great playmaker and has the ability to take over a game. She averaged 8 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds per game last season and will be looking to improve on those numbers this season.

At number 4 is sophomore shooting guard Kayla Thornton. Kayla is a lights out shooter and was one of the best three-point shooters in the state of Florida last season. She averaged 10 points per game last season and will be looked upon to score even more this year.

The Knights are entering the 2018-19 season with high hopes and a handful of talented players who are poised to make a big impact. Here are five players who could surprise some people this season:

1. Kayla Gordon
Kayla Gordon is a 6’3″ center who transferred to UCF from East Carolina prior to the 2017-18 Season She sat out last year due to NCAA transfer rules, but she is eligible to play this season and she is expected to make an immediate impact.

2. Zykira Lewis
Zykira Lewis is a 5’8″ guard who was named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year last season. She averaged 12.5 points per game as a freshman and she will be expected to do even more as a sophomore.

3. Aliyah Gregory
Aliyah Gregory is a 6’1″ guard/forward who made an immediate impact as a freshman last season, averaging 11 points and 5 rebounds per game. She is expected to be one of the leaders on this year’s team.

4. Angel Hayden

With the NCAA Tournament underway, there are a few UCF girls basketball players that fans should keep an eye on.

First up is junior guard Kay Kay Wright. The reigning AAC Defensive Player of the Year is averaging 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists per game. She is also shooting 42 percent from three-point range. Wright will be a key player for the Knights as they look to make a run in the tournament.

Next is senior guard Zykira Lewis. Lewis is averaging a team-high 18 points per game and is shooting 38 percent from three-point range. She is also one of the best free throw shooters in the country, knocking down 85 percent of her shots from the Charity Stripe Lewis will be counted on to score points in bunches for UCF.
