2019 Uconn Basketball Recruiting Who to Watch For

In recent years Uconn’s basketball recruiting class has been headlined by big names like Kemba Walker and Andre Drummond However, the class of 2019 is relatively unheralded. Here are a few names to watch out for:

-5* James Wiseman
Wiseman is a 6’11” center from Memphis, TN. He is currently ranked as the #1 player in the class of 2019 by ESPN. He has offers from nearly every major Basketball Program in the country.

-4* Cole Anthony
Anthony is a 6’3” point guard from New York, NY. He is currently ranked as the #8 player in the class of 2019 by ESPN. He has offers from Duke, Kansas, Louisville, and many others.

-4* Matthew Hurt
Hurt is a 6’9” forward from Rochester, MN. He is currently ranked as the #12 player in the class of 2019 by ESPN. He has offers from Indiana, Iowa State and Marquette among others.

2020 Uconn Basketball Recruiting: Who to Watch For

uconn basketball is in a good place right now. They are coming off a solid season in which they made it to the NIT semifinals, and they have a young, talented core to build around. The future is bright for the Huskies, and that is evident in their recruiting efforts.

They currently have the No. 5 Recruiting Class in the country for 2020, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings

The class is headlined by 5-star center James Bouknight who is rated as the No. 19 player in the nation. He is a 6’5″, 200-pounder from Brooklyn, NY who has good athleticism and a smooth shooting touch. He should be an immediate impact player for Uconn next season.

Another name to keep an eye on is 4-star shooting guard Andre Gordon. Gordon is rated as the No. 77 player in the nation, and he brings good size (6’4″) and shooting ability (43 percent from three-point range) to the table. He should also be able to contribute right away for the Huskies.

Rounding out the 2020 recruiting class are 4-star small forward Richie Grant and 3-star Power Forward Isaiah Whaley. Both players are ranked outside of the top 100 nationally, but they both have good upside and should develop into solid players in time.

Looking ahead to 2021, Uconn already has two commits in the fold: 5-star point guard Jalen Gaffney and 4-star small forward Tyler Polley. Gaffney is rated as the No. 12 player in the nation, while Polley checks in at No. 52 nationally. Both players should be key contributors for Uconn over the next few years.

With the fall Signing Period now wrapped up, the UConn Basketball Coaching Staff will turn their attention to the spring and summer of 2020 with an eye on adding one or two more players to the program. Here’s a look at some of the prospects who are currently flying under the radar but could be on UConn’s radar in the coming months.

Class of 2020

PG R.J. Hampton
Currently ranked as the No. 5 player in the 2020 class, Hampton is a 6-foot-5 point guard from Little Elm, Texas. He’s a dynamic playmaker with good size and length for his position. Hampton is an excellent scorer, especially in transition, and he has a knack for getting to the rim and finishing above defenders. He’s also a very good shooter from three-point range and he has the ability to create his own shot off the dribble. Hampton is currently uncommitted but he has expressed interest in UConn and he took an unofficial visit to campus back in September.

SFJosh Green
A 6-foot-6 small forward from Australia, Green is currently ranked as the No. 9 player in the 2020 class. He’s a strong, athletic wing player with good size and length. Green is an excellent scorer, especially in transition, where he excels at finishing above defenders at the rim. He’s also a very good shooter from three-point range, and he has the ability to create his own shot off the dribble. Green is expected to take an official visit to UConn sometime this spring or summer.

PF Isaiah Stewart
A 6-foot-9 power forward from Rochester, New York, Stewart is currently ranked as the No. 14 player in the 2020 class. He’s a physical post player with good size and strength. Stewart is an excellent rebounder and shot blocker, and he has a nice touch around the basket offensively. In recent years the UConn men’s Basketball team has been successful in recruiting international prospects. In the class of 2018, UConn has two commits from abroad in guard Jamal Reason (Trinidad & Tobago) and forward Isaiah Whaley (Dominican Republic). – Forward Precious Achiuwa: A 6-foot-9 forward from Nigeria, Achiuwa plays at The Patrick School in New Jersey. He is rated as a five-star prospect and the No. 12 player in the country by Rivals.com. Achiuwa has offers from UConn, Arizona, Georgetown, Louisville, Maryland and Miami among others.
– Guard Tyrese Maxey A 6-foot-4 guard from South Garland High School in Texas, Maxey is rated as a five-star prospect and the No. 15 player in the class by Rivals. He recently took an official visit to UConn and also has offers from Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Texas and Villanova among others.

– Guard DJ Jeffries: A 6-foot-7 guard from Olive Branch high school in Mississippi, Jeffries is rated as a five star prospect and the No. 8 player in his class by Rivals. He has offers from Auburn, Florida State Memphis, Mississippi State Ohio State Oklahoma State among others.
– Forward N’Faly Dante: A 6-foot-11 center from Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas, Dante is originally from Mali. He is rated as a five star prospect and the No. 4 player nationally by Rivals.com. Uconn Basketball Recruiting: 5-Star Prospects

Uconn basketball recruiting has been on a roll as of late. They have landed two top-10 recruits in the past two years and look to continue that trend with the class of 2020. Head Coach Dan Hurley has made it a priority to recruiting the best players in the country and it has paid off so far. Here are five 5-Star Prospects that the Huskies are targeting for the class of 2020:

1) Cole Anthony The #1 player in the country, Cole Anthony is a 6’3” point guard from Oak Hill Academy. He is an elite scorer and playmaker who can take over a game at any time. Uconn is one of the schools that he is considering and they will have a good chance to land him.

2) Kira Lewis Jr.- A 6’3” point guard from Alabama, Kira Lewis Jr. is another top-10 recruit who is considering Uconn. He is a shifty playmaker with a High Basketball IQ. He would be a great addition to an already strong backcourt for the Huskies.

3) Precious Achiuwa- A 6’9” forward from Nigeria, Precious Achiuwa is one of the best prospects in the 2020 class. He is an elite athlete with a high motor. He would be a great frontcourt partner for current Uconn commit James Bouknight

4) Scottie Barnes- A 6’7” forward from Florida, Scottie Barnes is another top-10 recruit who has Uconn on his list. He is a very versatile player who can play multiple positions His size and athleticism would be a welcome addition to the Huskies roster.

5) Trayce Jackson-Davis A 6’9” forward from Indiana, Trayce Jackson Davis is another top recruit who has Uconn on his list. He is a very skilled big man who can score inside and out. He would be a great complement to current commit James Bouknight in the frontcourt.

Uconn basketball has been on the recruiting warpath as of late. They picked up a verbal commitment from James Bouknight, a 5-star shooting guard on August 26th.

But Uconn isn’t stopping there. They have their sights set on several other 4-star prospects in the 2020 class. Here are a few names to keep an eye on:

-Isaiah Whaley: A 6’9″ power forward from New London, CT. Whaley is ranked as the #56 player in the 2020 class by 247Sports.
-Adama Sanogo: A 6’9″ center from Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut. Sanogo is ranked as the #79 player in the 2020 class by 247Sports.
-Richie Grannis: A 6’6″ shooting guard from Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts. Grannis is ranked as the #154 player in the 2020 class by 247Sports.

As the 2020-21 season approaches, UConn’s Coaching Staff is focused on the future and continuing to build the Huskies’ Basketball Program

UConn has already landed two recruits for next season in 4-star point guard Akok Akok and 3-star shooting guard R.J. Cole.

Here’s a look at three more 3-star recruits who have caught the attention of UConn’s coaches and could be future Huskies:

Tyrese Martin, a 6-foot-6 Small Forward from Rhode Island is ranked as the No. 89 player in the Class of 2021 by ESPN. Martin has great size and athleticism and is considered a versatile player who can score, rebound and defend. He has received interest from several schools, including UConn, Boston College Providence and URI.

Aram Geller is a 6-foot-9 center from Massachusetts who is ranked as the No. 177 player in the Class of 2021 by ESPN. Geller is a big body who can block shots and rebound, but he also has good touch around the basket and can score inside and out. He has received interest from several schools, including UConn, Boston College and Providence.

Garrison Brooks is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Maryland who is ranked as the No. 184 player in the Class of 2021 by ESPN. Brooks is known for his shooting ability, but he’s also a good athlete with the ability to create his own shot. He has received interest from several schools, including UConn, Georgetown, Maryland and Towson.

Uconn Basketball Recruiting: 2-Star Prospects

Prospects receive stars based on their projected collegiate and/or professional career. The more stars, the more potential a player has to be successful at the next level. However, stars are not always indicative of success and players with fewer stars often outperform those with more. The two-star prospects below are players that Uconn should keep an eye on as they continue their recruiting process

-Givon Crump: A 6’7″ small forward from Philadelphia, Crump is a lengthy and rangy prospect with plenty of upside. He’s a good athlete that can get up and down the court, and has the potential to be a very good defender at the next level. Crump is still developing offensively, but has shown flashes of being a capable shooter from outside. If he can continue to develop his offensive game, he has the potential to be a very good player for Uconn.

-Dylan Painter: A 6’10” center from Reading, PA, Painter is a big body that can clog up the paint and rebound at a high level. He’s not the most athletic guy, but his size and strength allow him to body up opposing big men and make it difficult for them to get easy baskets. Painter is still raw offensively, but has shown some improved footwork and touch around the basket this season. If he can continue to develop his offensive game, he has the potential to be a very good player for Uconn.
