2019 Uta baseball roster Infielders

The 2019 Uta baseball team is made up of some of the most talented young athletes in the country. Here’s a look at the team’s infielders, who are sure to be a force to be reckoned with on the diamond this season.

Devin Hairston – Senior – shortstop
A four-year starter for the Miners, Hairston is a team captain and one of the most experienced members of the squad. He’s a talented all-around player who hits for average and power, and is also a solid defender at shortstop. Hairston was named first-team All-Conference USA last season and is expected to be one of the league’s Top Players again in 2019.

Tyler Mantle – Junior – second base
Mantle transferred to Uta from junior college prior to last season, and he immediately made an impact both offensively and defensively. He’s an excellent contact hitter who doesn’t strike out often, and he also provides good range and sure hands at second base. Mantle was named honorable mention All-Conference USA last year, and he figures to be one of the team’s leaders in 2019.

Hunter Higdon – Sophomore – third base
Higdon broke into the starting lineup as a freshman last year and quickly established himself as one of the Miners’ best hitters. He has a great eye at the plate and an advanced understanding of hitting, which allows him to hit for both average and power. Higdon is also a solid defender at third base, making him a key cog in Uta’s lineup.

2019 Uta Baseball roster Outfielders

With the 2019 baseball season just around the corner, let’s take a look at the Uta outfielders who will be taking the field this year.

We’ll start with Left fielder Brian Anderson. Anderson was acquired by Uta in a trade with the Miami Marlins last offseason and is coming off a strong 2018 campaign in which he hit .273/.357/.400 with 10 home runs and 47 RBI. He’s expected to be one of the team’s top offensive contributors again this year and should see most of his time in left field

In center field, the team will have a bit of a platoon situation going on. All-star Gold Glove winner Jackie Bradley Jr. will start most games against right-handed pitchers, while switch-hitting former top prospect Andrew Benintendi will start against lefties. Bradley is coming off a down year offensively, but is still one of the best defensive fielders in baseball and should Bounce Back with the bat in 2019. Benintendi, meanwhile, is coming off a strong 2018 in which he hit .290/.366/.465 with 20 Home Runs and 87 RBI while playing excellent defense in left field. He projects to be one of the team’s best all-around players this season.

Right field will be manned by Mookie Betts who needs no introduction at this point. Betts is coming off back-to-back seasons in which he was named American League MVP and should once again be one of the best players in baseball this season. He’s expected to lead the team in virtually every offensive category and will also provide excellent defense in right field.

The Uta outfield looks to be one of the best in baseball this season, with several All-Star caliber players manning each position. Be sure to catch them in action this year!
