UTRGV Baseball Recent Results

The UTRGV Vaqueros Baseball Team represents The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley The team competes in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The Vaqueros play their home games at Edinburg baseball stadium on the university’s Edinburg, Texas campus.

Highlights from the 2017 season

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros are a Division I college baseball team that plays in the Western Athletic Conference They are currently coached by Phil Warren. The Vaqueros began play in 2014 as an independent before joining the WAC in 2015.

The team played their first game on February 14, 2014, against Southeastern Louisiana and won 3-2. They finished the 2014 season with a record of 34-22-1, and made their first appearance in the NCAA tournament losing to Sam Houston State in the Lafayette Regional.

In 2015, the Vaqueros had their best season to date, finishing 43-19 and winning the WAC regular season title. They made their second appearance in the NCAA Tournament losing to LSU in the Baton Rouge Regional.

The 2016 season was another successful one for UTRGV, as they finished 38-24 and again won the WAC regular season title. They made their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament but were once again unable to win a game, losing to Rice and Tulane in the Houston Regional.

The 2017 season began on February 17th with a win over Dallas Baptist and ended on May 28th with a loss to Grand Canyon in the WAC tournament. The Vaqueros finished 37-23 overall and 17-11 in conference play good for second place in the WAC. Although they did not make it back to the NCAA tournament 2017 was another successful year for Utrgv Baseball

Rgv Baseball Key Players to Watch

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros baseball team is back again this season with high hopes of another winning season. Head Coach built the team up from its first year in Division I to now being a preseason favorite to win the Western athletic conference After an impressive 2018 campaign in which they finished second in the conference, the Vaqueros are looking to take that next step and win a conference championship

There are a few key players that will be key to the Vaqueros success this season. Starting pitcher is one of the best in the conference and will be relied on heavily to anchor the pitching staff. First baseman is a big power hitter that opposing pitchers will need to be wary of. In the field, shortstop has great range and a strong arm that will keep runners honest on the bases.

UTRGV Baseball: Coaching Staff

The Coaching Staff for the UTRGV Vaqueros Baseball Team is comprised of head coach Bill Campbell, assistant coaches Raymundo Felix Jr. and Chris Rodrigue, and volunteer Assistant Coach Phil Seibel.

Campbell, who is in his seventh season as Head Coach has led the Vaqueros to two Western Athletic Conference titles and two NCAA Division I regionals. Under his guidance, the team has had 27 players drafted by MLB organizations, including four in 2018.

Prior to joining the coaching staff at UTRGV, Felix was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Oral Roberts University He was also Head coach of the Rookie-level Ogden Raptors in 2015 and 2016.

Rodrigue comes to UTRGV after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Marshall University Prior to Marshall, Rodrigue served as an assistant coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College and Assistant Director of Operations at Oklahoma State University

Seibel joins the Vaqueros Coaching Staff after a long career as a professional player and coach. He played in the Major Leagues for 11 seasons with the Chicago Cubs Kansas City Royals Houston Astros and New York Mets After his playing career ended, Seibel became a Minor League Baseball coach with various organizations.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros Baseball team is a NCAA Division I college baseball team that represents the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. The team competes in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). They play their home games at UTRGV Baseball Stadium which opened on February 16, 2019, and seats 2,500 fans.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros baseball team represents The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in NCAA Division I college baseball The program began in the 2014 season, when the school moved to Division I. They are members of the Western Athletic Conference Their home games are played at UTRGV Baseball Stadium on the university’s Edinburg, Texas campus.

UTRGV Vaqueros baseball made its NCAA Division I debut in 2014. Prior to that, the school was an independent NCAA Division II program for just one season (2013). In 2012, the school was a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). From 2007-11, UTRGV (then known as Texas-Pan American) was a Division I Independent school not affiliated with any conference.

UTRGV Baseball: Media Coverage

UTRGV Baseball Schedule announced, with 23 home games
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros announced their 2019 baseball schedule which includes 23 Home Games The season will begin on Friday, February 15, when the Vaqueros host the Sam Houston State Bearkats at 7:00 p.m.

This will be the first season under new head coach Derek Matlock, who was hired in June 2018. Matlock comes to UTRGV after five seasons as the head coach at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio where he led the Rattlers to a 190-127 (.598) record and three NCAA regional appearances.

The Vaqueros will play 56 games in 2019, 29 of which will be at UTRGV baseball stadium They will face off against all eight teams in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), as well as non-conference opponents such as Baylor, TCU, and Rice.
