The Veterans

The only exception is junior guard Stef Smith, who has started every game for the Catamounts over the past two seasons.

The most experienced member of the team is forward Anthony Lamb, who is entering his senior year. Lamb has started all but two games over his four years at Vermont and been a key part of the team’s offense, averaging over 16 points per game last season. He will be joined in the frontcourt by fellow senior Samuel Hauser, who also started every game last year.

In the backcourt, Smith will be joined by another experienced guard in senior Drew Urquhart. Urquhart has been a key player for Vermont off the bench over his career, but he is expected to move into a starting role this season. Senior captain Ernie Duncan rounds out the starting five. Duncan has been a starter for much of his career and is one of the best three-point shooters in program history.

The Bench

The bench has been a big part of both the team’s success and failures this season. Against Rhode Island the bench contributed just 2 points in a loss. However, against Central Connecticut, the bench chipped in 27 points in a win.

So who’s in and who’s out for the Vermont men’s basketball team? Here is a look at the bench players

Out:
-Kaleemaj Williams (F): Williams has seen his playing time decrease this season, averaging just 3 minutes per game. He has struggled when he has been on the court, shooting just 28% from the field and 50% from the Free Throw Line With other options available on the bench, Williams is likely to see even less playing time in the future.

The Coaching Staff

The 2017-18 Season will be a telling one for the Vermont Basketball Program After years of toiling in the America East the Catamounts finally broke through and made the NCAA Tournament in 2016. But with that historic achievement came heightened expectations, and last year’s team fell short of the mark, finishing 18-16 (9-9 in conference play) and getting bounced from the conference tournament in the semifinals.

This season, Head Coach John Becker will have to retool his roster after losing four starters from last year’s squad. Here’s a look at who’s gone, who’s coming back, and who to keep an eye on as Vermont looks to get back to the Big Dance.
