WKU Basketball Roster Meet the Coaches

The Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers men’s basketball team represents Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green Kentucky. The Hilltoppers currently compete in Conference USA The team’s most recent appearance in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament was in 2013. They are currently coached by Rick Stansbury.

The WKU Hilltoppers are set to have an exciting season and these are the 10 players that will be leading the way. From sharpshooters to high-flying dunkers, this team has a little bit of everything and is sure to be entertaining. Get to know the team below.

#1 Taveion Hollingsworth
Hollingsworth is a 6’2” guard from Lexington, Kentucky. He is a considered a top-100 recruit by multiple scouting services and is expected to make an immediate impact for the Hilltoppers. Hollingsworth is known for his shooting ability and his athleticism.

#2 Josh Anderson
Anderson is a 6’6” guard/forward from Baton Rouge Louisiana. He is a versatile player that can play multiple positions Anderson is known for his high energy and his ability to run the floor.

#3 Charles Bassey
Bassey is a 6’11” center from Lagos, Nigeria. He is considered one of the best recruits in the country and has been compared to NBA Star Anthony Davis Bassey is known for his defensive presence and his rebounding ability.

#4 Ike Ngwudo
Ngwudo is a 6’7” forward from London, England. He is known as a hard worker with a high motor. Ngwudo will add some much needed size to the Hilltoppers frontcourt.

#5 Jared Savage
Savage is a 6’4” guard from Kansas City Missouri. He transferred to WKU after spending two years at Hutchinson Community College Savage is known for his outside shooting ability and he should provide some valuable minutes off the bench for the Hilltoppers.

#6 Jordan Rawls

Rawls is a 6’1” point guard from Hopkinsville, Kentucky. He played his first two collegiate seasons at Murray State before transferring to WKU prior to last season. Rawls provides excellent leadership and ball handling skills for the Hilltoppers.

#7 Lampros Mourtzanakis

Mourtzanakisis a 7-foot center from Chania, Greece. He played Professional Basketball in Greece before coming to America to play college basketball Mourtzanakis provides good size and strength in the post for the Hilltoppers

WKU Basketball Roster Meet the Fans

WKU Basketball is a Division I college Basketball team headquartered in Bowling Green Kentucky. The team is a member of Conference USA They play their home games at the E.A. Diddle Arena on the university’s campus. The team finished the 2014-2015 season with a record of 24-10 overall and 12-4 in conference play They earned a spot in the 2015 NCAA tournament by winning the Conference USA Tournament, but lost in the First Four round to Manhattan.

The WKU basketball team has a long and storied history dating back to their first season in 1923. The Hilltoppers have won over 1,600 games and appeared in 19 NCAA Tournaments (as of 2015). They have also been crowned Conference USA regular season champions 3 times (as of 2015) and Conference USA Tournament champions 5 times (as of 2015).

The Western Kentucky University men’s basketball team is set to tip off their 2019-20 season on November 5th against in-state rival Murray State The Hilltoppers are coming off a 26-11 season in which they captured the Conference USA tournament title and earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament WKU will look to build on that success this season with a roster that includes four returning starters and several talented newcomers.

The team is led by Head Coach Rick Stansbury, who is entering his eighth season at the helm of the Hilltoppers. Coach Stansbury has led WKU to six consecutive winning seasons, two Conference USA regular season titles, and three Conference USA tournament titles. Under his guidance, the Hilltoppers have earned four NCAA tournament berths, including two Sweet Sixteen appearances.

The 2019-20 WKU basketball team will look to continue their recent success with a mix of veteran experience and young talent. The team’s four returning starters include senior guard Lamontray Harris, junior forward Taveion Hollingsworth, sophomore center Charles Bassey, and sophomore guard Jordan Rawls. Harris was named to the All-Conference USA first team last season after averaging 15 points per game while shooting 42 percent from three-point range Hollingsworth was named the Conference USA tournament MVP after averaging 17 points and eight rebounds in the Hilltoppers’ three wins. Bassey is a two-time Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the All-Conference USA first team last season after averaging 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game. Rawls is a defensive specialist who averaged 1.5 steals per game last season while also chipping in 5 points per game

In addition to the returning starters, the Hilltoppers will also have several key newcomers who will look to make an immediate impact. Freshmen guards Josh Anderson and Davante Gardener are two highly touted recruits who figure to see significant playing time this season. Anderson was ranked as a top-100 recruit by multiple national outlets while Gardener was ranked as a top-150 recruit by ESPN. Transfers TJ Massenburg (Old Dominion) and Carson Williams (Northern Kentucky) will also be eligible to play this season after sitting out last year due to NCAA transfer rules. Massenburg is a 6’9” forward who averaged 8 points and 5 rebounds per game as a freshman at Old Dominion while Williams is a 6’5” guard who averaged 10 points per game as a sophomore at Northern Kentucky

The Western Kentucky University men’s basketball team is led by head coach Rick Stansbury and consists of 15 talented student athletes. WKU has a long and storied history of success on the hardwood, appearing in 28 NCAA Tournaments dating back to 1948. They’ve been particularly successful lately, reaching the Big Dance six times in the last 10 years, including a run to the Sweet 16 in 2013.
