The Worcester Polytechnic Institute men’s basketball team is on a roll. They’ve won their last nine games and are headed to the Championship game of the Division III NCAA tournament

The Engineers are led by senior guard Jake Wisniewski, who is averaging 18 points per game in the tournament. Wisniewski has been shooting lights out, hitting 58 percent of his shots from the field and 46 percent from three-point range

WPI will take on defending champion Middlebury in the title game on Saturday. The Engineers are looking to win their first NCAA Basketball Championship in school history.

In early December, the WPI men’s Basketball team embarked on what would be a historic season. The team had just come off of a disappointing loss in the NEWMAC Championship game the previous year, and they were eager to redeem themselves. They started the season strong, winning their first 10 games. This set the stage for a thrilling finish to the regular season as they finished with a record of 24-2, tied for first place in the conference with Springfield College

In part 3 of our series on the WPI men’s basketball team we take a look at their recent success and how they’ve been able to build a winning culture.

The WPI men’s Basketball team has enjoyed a lot of success over the past few years. They’ve won 2 conference championships and have been to the NCAA Division III tournament 3 times in the last 4 years.

This success hasn’t come easy, however. The team has had to overcome some adversity, including injuries to Key Players and some heartbreaking losses.

But through it all, they’ve persevered and come out stronger. They’re a tighter-knit group now and have a culture of winning that they weren’t always able to maintain in the past.

As they head into the 2019-2020 Season they’ll be looking to build on their recent success and take another step towards their ultimate goal: winning a National Championship

WPI Men’s Basketball: The Road to the Championship – Part 4

In the fourth and final installment of our “Road to the Championship” series, we take a look at the WPI men’s basketball team as they head into the NCAA Division III tournament.

The Engineers finished the Regular Season with a 25-3 record, earning them the top seed in the New England regional. They will take on eighth-seeded Bates in the first round on Friday, March 3.

WPI is coming off an impressive run to the final four last season, and they will look to build on that success this year. Head Coach Chris Bartley has assembled a talented group of players, led by seniors Connor Ruland and Frank Oftring.

The Engineers have been one of the best Defensive Teams in Division III this season, holding opponents to just 60.8 points per game They will need to be at their best defensively if they want to make a run at the championship.

Offensively, WPI is led by Ruland, who is averaging 17.5 points per game Oftring has also been dangerous offensively, averaging 16.1 points per game while shooting 46 percent from three-point range.

The Bates game will tip off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday Night at Alumni Gymnasium on the campus of WPI. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and can also be seen on tape delay on NESNplus at 10:00 p.m

The WPI men’s basketball team had a historic season, winning their first ever Division III National Championship The team went 30-3 overall and 20-0 in conference play en route to winning the NEWMAC Regular Season and tournament titles.

In the NCAA tournament the team defeated Saint Joseph’s (ME), Stockton, Tufts, and Williams before defeating Amherst in the National Championship game.

This season was an incredible accomplishment for the WPI men’s Basketball Program and we can’t wait to see what they’ll do next year!
