The 1990 NBA season was the 44th season of the National Basketball Association This season saw the introduction of three expansion teams the Charlotte Hornets Miami Heat and Orlando Magic All three teams would participate in the playoffs in their inaugural season. The Pistons capture their second consecutive NBA Championship and third overall, defeating the Trail Blazers in five games.

Portland’s Clyde Drexler were named co-MVPs for this series, becoming only fourth and fifth players to receive that honor in an NBA Finals

1990 NBA All-Star Game

The 1990 NBA All-Star Game was the 40th edition of the National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star Game The game was played on February 11, 1990, at the Orlando Arena in Orlando, Florida. This was the first NBA All-Star Game held in Orlando. The city would host the event again in 1992, and then every other year until it became an annual event in 1998. It was also the first time that all three lists (Eastern, Central and Western) were represented by starters. The Eastern Conference defeated the Western Conference 132129.

Prior to the start of the season, Phil Jackson was named Head Coach of the Chicago Bulls replacing Doug Collins Jackson would lead the Bulls to one of the greatest seasons in NBA history TheyWould finish with a 6121 record, clinching their first ever Central Division title. Michael Jordan would win his second MVP Award as he led the league in scoring with a 30.6 points per game average. Rookie Kendall Gill would make an immediate impact, as he was named to the All-Star team and would win Rookie of The Year.

In 1990, the NBA Summer League was held in Salt Lake City for the first time. The league featured eight teams: the Chicago Bulls Cleveland Cavaliers Dallas Mavericks Detroit Pistons Golden State Warriors Indiana Pacers Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz Each team played four games. The league was won by the Lakers, who defeated the Jazz in the Championship game
