After leading the Spartans to their first Final Four in 20 years, Izzo was named Naismith College Coach of the Year for the second time.

The Spartans have won two NCAA Championships and 15 Big Ten Conference championships. Their two National Championships came in 1979 and 2000. The 79 title came after defeating Indiana State in the Championship game which is notable for being one of only two times that a team from outside the state of Indiana (1979 and 2012) has won the NCAA tournament The Spartans also lost in the 1919 Final Four and 1950 National Championship Game, both times against Kentucky. Within the conference, Michigan State will look to improve upon last year’s record with key games against rivals Michigan (February 24th), Ohio State (February 10th), and Purdue (January 27th).
