Louisville Basketball Roster The Complete List
The Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball team represents the University of Louisville in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) of NCAA Division I. The Cardinals have won three NCAA Championships and have been to 10 Final Fours in 42 NCAA tournament appearances while compiling a 1,721–681 overall record as of March 2020.
The Incoming Freshmen
The Louisville Cardinals have landed another top-five recruiting class Here is a list of the seven incoming freshmen, with their heights, weights, positions and hometowns.
Freshman guards David Johnson (6-5, 190) and Josh Nickelberry (6-5, 200) are both four-star recruits who should see significant playing time right away. Freshman wing Samuel Williamson (6-7, 210) is a three-star recruit who has the potential to be a real difference-maker on the defensive end of the court.
The two big men in Louisville’s Recruiting Class are four-star center Aidan Igiehon (6-10, 220) and three-star forward Jaelyn Withers (6-8, 220). Igiehon is a physical specimen who has the potential to be an elite rim protector, while Withers is a raw but athletic big man who should develop into a solid all-around player.
Rounding out Louisville’s recruiting class are two wing players three-star small forward Quinn Slazinski (6-7, 215) and two-star shooting guard Luke Thomas (6-4, 185). Slazinski is a versatile player who can do a little bit of everything on the court, while Thomas is a knockdown shooter with good size for his position.
The Returning Veterans
The 2017-2018 season will be an important one for the University of Louisville Men’s Basketball Program The team is coming off of a disappointing 2016-2017 campaign in which they failed to make the NCAA Tournament They will be looking to rebound this season and return to the tournament. The team is led by a core group of returning veterans, who will be looking to make an impact this season.

Gaston Godfrey
A 6’4″ guard from Piscataway, NJ, Godfrey is a senior who has seen his minutes decrease each year he has been at Louisville. He will look to earn re Playing time this season and provide some valuable experience for the team.
Jared Swopshire
A 6’10” forward from Chicago, IL, Swopshire is a senior who transferred to Louisville from Northwestern prior to the 2010-2011 season. He has been a key contributor for the team over the past two seasons, averaging 8.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last year. Swopshire will be counted on to provide leadership and scoring this season.
Stephan Van Treese
A 6’9″ center from Indianapolis, IN, Van Treese is a senior who has been a key reserve for Louisville over the past three seasons. He provides valuable experience and energy off the bench and will look to contribute more this season as he earns more playing time.

#1 Samuell Williamson – Freshman Forward
Williamson is a 6-7 forward from Rockwall, Texas. He was ranked as the No. 33 player in the country by ESPN and the No. 2 player in Texas. He averaged 28.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game as a senior in High School
#2 Aidan Igiehon – Freshman Center
Igiehon is a 6-10 center from Dublin, Ireland. He was ranked as the No. 60 player in the country by ESPN and the No. 3 player in Ireland. He averaged 16.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game as a senior in high school while shooting 63 percent from the field.
#3 David Johnson – Freshman Guard
Johnson is a 6-6 guard from Louisville, Kentucky. He was ranked as the No. 64 player in the country by ESPN and the No.? Player in Kentucky.? He averaged 22.? points, 5.? rebounds and 5.? assists per game as a senior in high school while shooting 48 percent from the field and 39 percent from three-point range
#4 Josh Nickelberry – Freshman Guard
Nickelberry is a 6-4 guard from Orlando, Florida.? He was ranked as the No.? Player in Florida by ESPN and? Player in Orlando Sentinel’s Super60.? He averaged 19 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists per game as a senior in high school while shooting 45 percent from three-point range.#5 Jaelyn Withers – Freshman Forward? The Walk-Ons
The Louisville Cardinals men’s Basketball team has had a long tradition of success, and that success has been built on the backs of some of the best players in the country. However, it’s not just the starters who have contributed to that success. The walk-ons have played a vital role in Louisville’s success as well, and they continue to do so today.
The walk-ons are an important part of Louisville’s basketball team because they provide valuable depth and experience. They also add to the team’s chemistry and provide a positive influence in the locker room

The Coaching Staff
The current Louisville Basketball Coaching Staff is Head Coach Chris Mack Associate head coach Dino Gaudio, assistant coaches Luke Murray and Mike Balado, and Director of Operations Rob Valdes.
Mack was hired in the spring of 2018 after the firing of Head Coach David Padgett. He came to Louisville from Xavier University where he was Head coach for nine seasons. During his time at Xavier, Mack led the team to five NCAA tournament appearances, including two trips to the Sweet Sixteen
Gaudio joined Mack’s staff in 2018 after serving as an Assistant Coach at Wake Forest University. Prior to Wake Forest he was head coach at Army and College of Charleston He has also been an assistant coach at Virginia Tech and Clemson.
Murray also joined Mack’s staff in 2018 after serving as an assistant coach at Seton Hall University. He is the son of former Louisville head coach Rick Pitino and has also worked as an assistant coach at Vanderbilt University and Florida International University
Balado joined the staff in 2019 after spending one season as an assistant coach at Texas Tech University Prior to Texas Tech he was head coach atIPFW for four seasons.
Valdes has been with Louisville since 2014 and was promoted to director of operations in 2019. He previously served as a graduate assistant for the Cardinals.
The Schedule
The Louisville Cardinals men’s Basketball team represents the University of Louisville in the NCAA Division I. The Cardinals compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). They have won three NCAA championships and have been to ten Final Fours in 42 NCAA tournament appearances while compiling a 1,742–771 (.694) overall record through the 2019–20 season.
The Rivalry Games
Louisville Cardinals basketball is one of the most successful programs in college basketball history. The Cardinals have won multiple National Championships and Conference Titles, and their players have been awarded numerous individual honors. Louisville’s fans are some of the most passionate in the country, and the team’s games are always highly anticipated events.
Louisville’s biggest rivals are the Kentucky Wildcats with whom they share a intense rivalry. The two teams first met on the basketball court in 1913, and they have played each other nearly every year since. The rivalry is so intense that it is often referred to as the “Battle of the Bluegrass.” Louisville also has a strong rivalry with the Indiana Hoosiers another one of their frequent opponents.
