Introduction
Notre Dame’s roster is a who’s who of college hockey with a mix of experience and young talent that makes for an exciting team to watch The Irish have a deep bench and a strong core of forwards, led by captain Anders Bjork. They also have one of the best goalies in the country in Cale Morris.
Notre Dame is a perennial powerhouse in college hockey and they are always one of the teams to beat. With a mix of experienced veterans and young talents, they are always a dangerous team. They will be looking to make another deep run in the NCAA tournament this year, and with the talent they have on their roster, they have a good chance to do just that.
Goaltending
Notre Dame has two goaltenders on its roster for the 2019-2020 Season
Sophomore goaltender Dylan St. Cyr is from Northville, Michigan. He is 6’1” and 186 pounds. St. Cyr was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was a Second Team All-Big Ten selection last season. He appeared in 35 games for the Irish, posting a 20-11-4 record with a 2.65 goals against average and a .908 save percentage
Freshman goalie Ryan Bischel is from Pewee Valley, Kentucky. He is 6’3” and 185 pounds. Bischel played for the United States national team Development Program last season, appearing in 27 games and posting a 12-9-4 record with a 2.36 goals against average and a .914 save percentage.
Forwards

Defensemen
The Notre Dame hockey team is successful thanks to the hard work and dedication of each and every player. Get to know the roster a little better with this quick guide to the team’s defensemen.
-Andrew Peeke: Peeke was born in Parkland, Florida, but grew up in Dublin, Ohio. He played Junior hockey for the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) before committing to play for Notre Dame In his freshman season, Peeke had three goals and nine assists in 40 games.
-Bobby Nardella: A native of Rosemont, Illinois, Nardella also played for the Green Bay Gamblers before coming to Notre Dame He had four goals and 24 assists in 60 games during his rookie season with the Irish.
-Dennis Gilbert: Gilbert is from Chicago, Illinois and played his junior hockey with the Chicago Steel of the USHL. He led all Notre Dame defenseman in scoring during his freshman year, tallying six goals and 15 assists in 39 games.
-Luke Ripley: Ripley is from Brighton, Michigan and played Junior Hockey for the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL. He had one goal and seven assists in 22 games during his first season with Notre Dame
Special teams
Notre Dame returns two of its top three point scorers from last season in senior Jake Evans and junior Andrew Oglevie. Evans, a third-team All-American and the recipient of the Skip Prosser Award as the nation’s top scholar-athlete, had 10 goals and 30 assists for 40 points last season. Oglevie, an honorable mention All-American, was second on the team with 19 goals and added 16 assists for 35 points.
Coaching staff
The Notre Dame hockey Coaching Staff is led by Head Coach Jeff Jackson. The staff also includes Associate head coach Paul Pooley, assistant coaches Andy Slaggert and Sean Brenneman, and Goaltending Coach Dave Rogalski.
Jackson is entering his 10th season as Head Coach of the Irish. He has led the team to two Frozen Fours and seven NCAA Tournament appearances. Prior to arriving at Notre Dame Jackson served as Head coach at Lake Superior State University for 12 seasons.
Pooley is in his second season as associate head coach after joining the Irish coaching staff in 2016. Prior to coming to Notre Dame he served as an Assistant Coach at his alma mater, Colgate University, for four seasons.
Slaggert is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Irish. He joined the Coaching Staff after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Cornell University
Brenneman is also in his first season as an assistant coach with the Irish. He came to Notre Dame after serving as an assistant coach at Dartmouth College for three seasons.
Rogalski enters his ninth season as goaltending coach at Notre Dame During his time with the Irish, he has coached four All-Americans and six NHL Draft picks.
Key losses
The 2018-19 Notre Dame Hockey team will have a different look to it after last season. The Irish lost eight players to graduation, including four forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender.
Most notable among the departures are forwards Anders Bjork and Cal Petersen. Bjork, a fifth-round pick of the Boston Bruins in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft had 39 points (16 goals, 23 assists) in 39 games last season and was a Hobey Baker Award finalist. He has since signed a professional contract with the Bruins and will not return to Notre Dame
Petersen, meanwhile, was Notre Dame’s starting goaltender for the past three seasons. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the fifth round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and signed a professional contract with the Kings following his junior season. He was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Year as a senior after posting a .928 save percentage and 2.22 goals-against average in 33 games.
Newcomers
This season, the Notre Dame hockey team welcomes five newcomers to the roster.
Forwards Cam Morrison and Graham Slaggert join the Irish from the U.S. National Team Development Program, while defenseman Nate Clurman comes to Notre Dame from Cherry Hill New Jersey.
In goal, the Irish add Conor Kirwan from St. Louis and Dylan Beauchemin from La Verne, California.
Outlook
The 2020-21 Notre Dame hockey roster features a nice mix of veteran experience and young talent. The team will be looking to build off of a successful 2019-20 season in which they made it to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament
Head coach Jeff Jackson will have a number of key returnees to work with, including senior captain Nate Clurman and junior forwards Cam Morrison and Graham Slaggert. Additionally, the team will benefit from the addition of some highly touted recruits, such as defenseman Luke Reynolds and forward Carter Savoie.

The University of Notre Dame Men’s hockey team is a Division I college Hockey Team that competes in the National Collegiate Hockey conference (NCHC). The team is currently coached by Jeff Jackson, who is in his 11th season as head coach of the Irish. The Notre Dame Hockey Team has won one National Championship which came in 2008. The Irish have made the NCAA tournament six times under Jackson’s tenure, with their most recent appearance coming in 2018.

The Irish will look to their freshmen to make an immediate impact this season as well. Key freshmen include forward Cole Kavanaugh (21 goals, 20 assists in Junior hockey last season), defenseman Nate Clurman (7 goals, 20 assists in Junior hockey last season), and forward Jack Jenkins (19 goals, 32 assists in junior hockey last season).
