Big 12 basketball rankings Pre-Season
The Big 12 is widely considered one of the best basketball conferences in the country, and this season is shaping up to be no different. With so many talented teams and players, it is hard to know where to start when predicting how the conference will shake out. Thankfully, we have put together a preseason ranking of the top 12 teams in the Big 12 to help get you started.
1. Kansas Jayhawks
The Jayhawks are coming off a disappointing loss in the Elite Eight last season, but they are still the team to beat in the conference. They return all five starters from last year’s team, led by senior guard Devonte’ Graham. They also bring in a strong freshman class that includes center Udoka Azubuike and wing Marcus Garrett.
2. West Virginia Mountaineers
The Mountaineers are always one of the toughest teams in the conference, and this year should be no different. They return four starters from last year’s team, including leading scorer Esa Ahmad. They also add Virginia transfer Darius Thompson, who should be a big boost to their backcourt.
3. Texas Tech Red Raiders
Chris Beard has done an incredible job turning around the Red Raiders program, and they are now one of the best teams in the conference. They return four starters from last year’s team that made it to the Elite Eight, led by junior guard Keenan Evans. They also add graduate transfer Zach Smith, who should provide some much-needed experience and leadership.
4. TCU Horned Frogs
The Horned Frogs made a surprise run to the NCAA tournament last season, and they are looking to build on that success this year. They return three starters from last year’s team, including leading scorer Kenrich Williams. They also add transfers Jaylen Fisher (UNLV) and KouAToure (Missouri), who should make an immediate impact.
5. Oklahoma Sooners
The Sooners are coming off a disappointing season, but they have a lot of talent on their roster that could help them Bounce Back in a big way. They return three starters from last year’s team, led by junior guard Trae Young They also add five-star recruit Michael Porter Jr., who is one of the best players in the country regardless of class. Keep an eye on them as they could make some noise this season.
