The Briar Cliff University Chargers will take the field for their 2019 season opener on February 16th at Ellyson Field in Des Moines IA. The team is coming off of a 23-22 (9-11 GPAC) campaign in 2018 in which they just missed out on a GPAC tournament berth. Head Coach Steve Eddie, who is entering his 5th season at the helm of the program, will look to lead the Chargers back to the conference tournament in 2019. The Briar Cliff University baseball schedule is released! See what our team has in store for the season.

The BCU baseball team is preparing for their upcoming season and they have released their schedule. The team will be playing a total of 32 games, 17 of which will be at home in Sioux City, Iowa.

The first game of the season will be on February 1st against Mount Marty College The game will start at 1pm and will be played at the new home field, Bishop Mueller Park.

Other important games include:
-March 8th and 9th: 4-game series against Grand View University
-March 22nd: single game against Northwestern College
-April 5th and 6th: 4-game series against Midland University

The Briar Cliff Baseball Team Players to Watch

The Briar Cliff baseball team is made up of talented student-athletes who are committed to their sport. As the season quickly approaches, fans can begin to look forward to what the team has in store. Below is a list of players to keep an eye on throughout the season.

-Infielder/outfielder Alex Wurth is a senior who has been with the team for four years. He is a versatile player who brings a lot of experience and leadership to the squad.
-Starting pitcher Manny De Jesus is a junior who transferred to Briar Cliff from Florida International University He is a hard-throwing right-hander that will add depth to the pitching staff.
-Outfielder/infielder Brandon Berry is a sophomore that made an immediate impact as a freshman last season. He is a dangerous hitter that can also play multiple positions on the field.
--relief pitcher Austin Martinez is a freshman that comes to Briar Cliff from Omaha, Nebraska. He was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 2019 MLB Draft and will be an important piece out of the bullpen this season.

The Briar Cliff baseball team is made up of 27 student-athletes, representing 12 states across the country. The team is made up of 14 pitchers, six infielders, three outfielders, and four catchers. Here is a closer look at the 2017 Briar Cliff baseball roster

Pitchers:
-Andrew Boschult: A junior from Sioux City, Iowa, Boschult is a right-handed pitcher who appeared in 13 games last season, starting nine of them. He had a 4-5 record with a 5.40 ERA in 54 innings pitched

-Brady Bovill: A sophomore from Carroll, Iowa, Bovill is a right-handed pitcher who appeared in 10 games last season, all in relief. He had a 0-1 record with a 5.23 ERA in 17 innings pitched.

Infielders:
-Derek Burleson: A senior from Yankton, South Dakota Burleson is a middle infielder who appeared in all 44 games last season, starting 42 of them. He led the team with a .345 batting average and had two homers and 19 RBIs.

Outfielders:
-Tanner Coyle: A junior from Indianola, Iowa, Coyle is an outfielder who appeared in 39 games last season, starting 38 of them. He batted .283 with three homers and 28 RBIs.

Catchers:
-Clayton Lyon: A senior from Sioux City, Iowa, Lyon is a catcher who appeared in 30 games last season, starting 29 of them. He batted .255 with one homer and 20 RBIs.

The Briar Cliff Baseball schedule is now available for the 2019 season. The team will play their home games at Memorial Park in Sioux City, Iowa.

Briar Cliff is a NCAA Division II school and a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). The team finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 22-24 and a conference record of 12-16. They placed fifth in the GPAC standings and did not qualify for the conference tournament

The team’s non-Conference Schedule includes games against several schools from different states, including Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, and South Dakota There are also several games against schools from other conferences, such as the MIAA, NSIC, and MCAC.

The regular season will begin on February 15th with a three-game series against Maryville University (MO). The first game will be played at Memorial Park, with the second and third games taking place at Lawrence Field in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Briar Cliff will play their first GPAC series of the season on March 8th-9th against Concordia University (NE). The three-game set will be played at Memorial Park in Sioux City, Iowa.

The conference schedule runs through April 27th and features doubleheaders on Saturdays and single games on Wednesdays or Thursdays. All GPAC series are three games.

The Briar Cliff Baseball team is comprised of student-athletes who compete at the highest level of college baseball The team is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).

The team plays its home games at the newly renovated Memorial Park, located on campus. The park features a state-of-the-art turfed infield, four newly constructed dugouts, and a seating capacity of over 500 fans.

Briar Cliff Baseball has a rich history of success, dating back to its first season in 1955. The team has won 12 conference championships and made 12 appearances in the NAIA World Series In 2019, the team finished with a record of 41-17 and ranked #6 in the nation.

The 2020 season will be an exciting one for Briar Cliff Baseball, as the team looks to build off last year’s success. Be sure to catch a game this season and root on the Chargers!

The Briar Cliff Baseball Season is just around the corner, and we wanted to give you a closer look at what to expect. This year, the team will be composed of 27 student-athletes, representing 17 different states. The schedule consists of 36 games, with 27 being played at home in Sioux City and 9 on the road.

conference play will begin on March 3rd when Briar Cliff takes on Northwestern in Orange City. The home opener is set for March 10th against Dordt. Some of the teams the Chargers will face off against this season include Grand View, Midland, Mount Marty, Nebraska Wesleyan and Concordia- Nebraska.

This will be head coach Anthony Rios’ sixth season with Briar Cliff, and he looks to lead his team to a conference championship and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament Coach Rios will be assisted by Tom O’Connell, Jaret Koinzan, and Alex Reyes.

The Briar Cliff Baseball roster A Closer Look

The Briar Cliff University baseball team is made up of 27 student-athletes, hailing from five different states. Of the 27 athletes, 12 are freshmen, 10 are sophomores, four are juniors and one is a senior. The team’s roster is filled with players who have the potential to make an immediate impact on the squad.

Briar Cliff will have plenty of experience on the mound this season as 13 pitchers return from last year’s team. The staff is anchored by senior ace Nick Baker, who was named first team all-conference last season after posting a 6-1 record with a 3.38 ERA. Joining Baker in the rotation will be junior right-hander Caleb Williams and sophomore lefties Tyler Crandell and Braydon Bennett.

The Chargers will also have a solid core of Position players back in the fold as six everyday starters return to the lineup. Leading the way offensively are seniors Connor Bump and Ryan Hussey. Bump was named first team all-conference last season after hitting .360 with four home runs while Hussey batted .355 with seven homers and was named second team all-conference.

The Briar Cliff University Chargers are set to open their 2021 baseball season on February 26th at home against the Midland University Warriors. The team will look to build on their success from last year, when they finished with a 29-16 overall record and made it to the NAIA World Series for the first time in program history.

This season, the Chargers will again compete in the GPAC conference and will look to make a return trip to the World Series The team has high hopes for the 2021 season and has put together a challenging schedule that will test them early and often.

GPAC Conference Games:
The Briar Cliff baseball team will again compete in the GPAC conference this season. The conference is made up of eight teams, all of which are located in Nebraska, Iowa, or South Dakota The Chargers finished in second place in the conference last season with a 20-7 record and will look to improve upon that mark this year.

Non-Conference Games:
In addition to their conference games, the Chargers have also scheduled several non-conference games against some tough competition. These games will help prepare the team for the rigors of conference play and should provide some good challenges early in the season.
