The 2017-2018 Chaminade basketball roster is looking competitive this season. The team has a mix of experience and youth, with several key returners from last year’s squad. Here’s a look at who’s who on the team:

– seniors Koa Eldredge, Drew Dinkleman, and Matt Griggs will provide leadership and experience

Who’s Who on the Team?

The Chaminade basketball team is made up of student-athletes who are committed to excellence on and off the court. The team’s roster includes a mix of experienced and newcomers, all of whom contribute to the Silver Swords’ success.

Leading the way for Chaminade is captain Ryan Ayers, a senior guard who has been with the team for four years. Ayers is a sharpshooter and reliable defender, and he provides leadership both on and off the court.

Junior forward Matt Healy is another key player for Chaminade. Healy is a versatile scorer who can also rebound and play defense He has been with the team for two years.

Rounding out the starting lineup are sophomore guard JJ Wimbush and freshman center Manny Russell. Wimbush is a dynamic scorer who can also dish out assists, while Russell is a strong presence in the paint who dominates on the boards. Both players are in their first year with the team.

The Silver Swords’ bench features several key contributors, including junior guard Samiullah “Sam” Khan, sophomore forward Abdul “AJ” Johnson, and freshman guard Malik Hines. Khan is a gifted shooter who can provide instant offense off the bench, Johnson is a physical presence in the post who can rebound and block shots and Hines is a defensive specialist who uses his quickness to create turnovers.

Forwards:
--Dwyane Wade is a 6’4″ shooting guard/small forward who is considered one of the best players in the NBA. He was drafted 5th overall by the Miami Heat in 2003 and has since won 3 NBA championships been named an All-Star 11 times, and was named NBA Finals MVP in 2006.
--Lebron James is a 6’8″ small forward/Power Forward who is also considered one of the best players in the NBA. He was drafted 1st overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003 and has since won 3 NBA Championships been named an All-Star 16 times, and was named NBA Finals MVP in 2012 and 2013.
--Kevin Durant is a 6’9″ small forward for the Oklahoma City Thunder He was drafted 2nd overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in 2007 and has since won 1 NBA Championship been named an All-Star 8 times, and was named NBA Finals MVP in 2017.

Guards:
--Russell Westbrook is a 6’3″ point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder He was drafted 4th overall by the Thunder in 2008 and has since won 1 NBA Championship been named an All-Star 9 times, and was named NBA MVP in 2017.
--Chris Paul is a 6’0″ point guard for the Houston Rockets He was drafted 4th overall bythe New Orleans Hornets in 2005 and has since been named an All-Star 9 times.

The Role Players

The “role players” are the glue that binds a team together and Chaminade’s basketball team is no different. From the point guard to the center, each player has their part to play in order for the team to be successful. Here’s a look at some of the key role players on this year’s squad.

The point guard is responsible for running the offense and getting the ball to the other players in scoring position. This year’s point guard is senior Avery Johnson.Johnson is a three-year starter who has been a key player on some of Chaminade’s most successful teams. He averaged 10 points and five assists last season and will be looked to as a leader on this year’s squad.

The shooting guard is one of the most important positions on the court. They are responsible for scoring points and often times are the best shooter on the team. This year’s shooting guard is junior Malik Newman Newman is one of the most highly touted recruits in the country and has already committed to play at Kansas next year. He averaged 22 points per game last season and will be counted on to carry a big load offensively this year.

The small forward is another versatileposition that can be asked to do a little bit of everything on the court. This year’s Small Forward is senior Jordan Barnett. Barnett is one of Chaminade’s best defenders and also proved to be a capable scorer last season, averaging 15 points per game He will be looked to as a leader on both ends of the court this season.

The power forward is another position that can be asked to do a little bit of everything, but they are usually most important as rebounders and defenders. This year’s power forwardis junior Trey Drechsel. Drechsel showed flashes of his potential last season, averaging six points and six rebounds per game He will need to take a big step forward this season if Chaminade wants to compete for a state championship

The Benchwarmers

The Benchwarmers are key to any team’s success. They may not see a lot of playing time but they provide invaluable support to their teammates and contribute to the team’s morale. Chaminade’s benchwarmer roster is no different. Here’s a who’s who of the team’s Benchwarmers.

-Riley Higgins: A sophomore guard, Riley is one of the team’s most vocal supporters. She is always cheering on her teammates and has a positive attitude that is infectious.
-Mackenzie Farley: A junior forward, Mackenzie is a key player in practice. She works hard and pushes her teammates to be their best.
-Alyssa Nguyen: A senior guard/forward, Alyssa is a captain and one of the team’s most passionate players. She Loves Basketball and it shows in her play.
-Brianna Wong: A sophomore guard, Brianna is a talented player who has a bright future ahead of her. She is a hard worker and has a lot of potential.

The fans are the pulse of Chaminade Basketball They show up to every game, cheering on their team with boundless energy. They’re also the ones who paint their faces and bodies with school colors, wave banners and flags, and make noise makers to support their team.

The Future

The Chaminade Silverswords men’s basketball team is looking to the future. The team has a new head coach Eric Bovaird, and 12 new players. This means that only three players from last season’s team are returning this year. That’s a lot of change, but it also means that there is a lot of opportunity for the team to grow and improve.

The three returning players are seniors Marquis Blakely, Jordan Ngatai, and Isaac Fotu. They will be joined by 12 new players: six freshmen, five sophomores, and one junior. This mix of experience and youth will give the team a chance to develop over the course of the season and hopefully be competitive in the conference.

It will be interesting to see how the team comes together and who steps up to fill leadership roles. With so many new players, it will take some time for the team to gel, but hopefully they can use this time to their advantage and come out stronger in the end.
