Introducing the CSI Basketball Roster
The College of Staten Island men’s basketball team is excited to announce its incoming class of student-athletes who will don the Dolphin uniform starting with the 2019-20 season
Headlining the list of newcomers is shooting guard Manny Martinez, a 6-4 native of Queens, NY who comes to CSI after a successful two-year stint at John Jay College. As a freshman, Martinez was named CUNYAC Rookie of the Year after averaging 15.5 points per game good for second on the team. He followed that up with an impressive sophomore campaign in which he averaged 18.1 points per game and led John Jay to the 2018-19 CUNYAC Championship game
Meet the Starting Five
The following is an introduction to the starting five for the CSI men’s Basketball team
Eddie Ortiz – Ortiz is a 6-foot-2-inch shooting guard from New York City He is a third-year player who was named to the CUNYAC All-Star team last year. Ortiz is the leading scorer for the Dolphins, averaging 17 points per game
Chris Gadley – Gadley is a 6-foot-6-inch forward from Brooklyn, NY. He is in his second year with the team and was named to the CUNYAC All-Star team last year. Gadley is second on the team in scoring, averaging 16 points per game
Jonathan Bates – Bates is a 6-foot-1-inch guard from Queens, NY. He is a third-year player and was named to the CUNYAC All-Star team last year. Bates leads the team in assists, averaging 5 per game.
Deshawn Richmond – Richmond is a 6-foot guard from New York City He is in his first year with CSI and has been one of the top scorers off the bench, averaging 9 Points per game
Key Reserves
Heading into the 2019-2020 Season the Cooper Spirit basketball team has a lot of potential. With a strong starting lineup and an impressive group of key reserves, the team is looking to make a run at the state title. Here is a closer look at some of the Key Players who will be coming off the bench this season:
-Derek Johnson is a 6’2” guard who is entering his senior year. He is a versatile player who can score, rebound, and play defense
-Trevor Smith is a 6’4” forward who is also entering his senior year. He is a good shooter and has a High Basketball IQ.
-Riley Andersen is a 6’1” guard who is entering his junior year. He is an excellent shooter and has the ability to make plays for his teammates.
– Alec Brown is a 6’7″ forward who is just a sophomore but has already shown immense potential. He’s very athletic and has great footwork around the basket.
These four players will be vital to the team’s success this season and will provide valuable minutes off the bench.
The Newcomers
The Newcomers
The 2020-21 season will see six fresh faces donning the Crimson and White. This year’s group is highlighted by national top-100 recruit MJ Rice and 5’10” speedster Dior Johnson.
Rice, a 6’6” small forward from Baltimore, Maryland, is the highest rated prospect to ever commit to Columbia. He chose the Lions over offers from programs such as Georgetown, Kansas State and Notre Dame As a senior at Mount Saint Joseph High School he led his team to a 28-3 record and a No. 3 ranking in the Washington Post Top 20 poll. He was named a McDonald’s All-American nominee and was selected First Team All-Metro by the Baltimore Sun.
Johnson, a native of Long Island New York, comes to Morningside Heights after attending Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut where he played for Head Coach Tom Espinosa. As a senior, he averaged 15 points per game on his way to being named First Team All-State and helping Putnam Science Academy to a 27-4 record. He was also named First Team All-New England prep school Athletic Conference (NEPSAC).
The Coaching Staff
The Coaching Staff of the CSI Basketball team is one of the most experienced and successful in the country. The head coach is Larry Brown who has won an NBA Championship an NCAA championship and an Olympic gold medal Brown is joined by assistant coaches Mike D’Antoni and Bernie Bickerstaff. D’Antoni is a former Nba Coach of the Year, and Bickerstaff is a two-Ime Nba Coach of the Year.
A Look at the Schedule
The 2020-21 season is finally underway for the CSU men’s basketball team The Rams are coming off a season in which they finished with a record of 24-8, good for second place in the Mountain West Conference. They also made an appearance in the NCAA tournament where they lost to eventual National Champion Virginia in the first round.
This season, the Rams have a lot to live up to. They are ranked No. 25 in the AP Poll and No. 24 in the Coaches Poll and they are expected to compete for a conference title once again.

Tyler Faithful: Tyler is a 6’1″ guard from Los Angeles CA. He’s a lefty and an excellent three-point shooter. He averaged 12 points per game in his senior year of high school
Isaiah Johnson: Isaiah is a 6’2″ guard from Chicago, IL. He’s a very athletic player who can finish at the rim and is also a good shooter from mid-range. He averaged 15 points per game in his senior year of high school
Luke Harper: Luke is a 6’7″ forward from Houston, TX. He’s a very versatile player who can shoot from the outside, put the ball on the floor, and finish at the rim. He averaged 18 points per game in his senior year of high school

Key Stats
As the official start of the 2020-21 season approaches, let’s take a look at some key stats for each player on the Charlotte Hornets’ roster.
Bismack Biyombo:
-Averaged 5.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game last season
-Has career averages of 4.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game
Miles Bridges:
-Averaged 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game last season
-Has career averages of 11.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game
Devonte’ Graham:

Predictions
It’s hard to top last year’s Cinderella story when the Rams went from unranked to the NCAA Tournament but this year’s team has the potential to make some noise in the conference.
Coach Wade Phillips has his work cut out for him, as he lost four starters from last year’s squad. The good news is that he has a strong returning core of players, led by senior guard Jonathon Gibson. The Rams also have a solid group of newcomers, including freshman forward Isaiah Mobley.
